My husband no longer notices his family. He spend about 8-15 hours a day playing Everquest. He denies it and gets mad when I say anything. He has a job but when he gets home he gets on..he gets off around three in the morning. I've cried ..I've threatened to leave him. Nothing seems to help.

Our boys don't even bother asking him to play outside anymore..he always says "in a few minutes just let me finish what I'm doing.", then hours go by and we just give up. I feel sick every time I look at him and he's hunched over the computer. The only reason I have the ability to post this is that he's at work.(which he's been slacking at so he can play his stupid fucking game) I want to smash the computer. I've thought about erasing the game but I seriously am afraid of what he'll do.

i'd say that you should leave the loser. if this game is more important to him than his family, then he doesn't know what he's missing out on.

mwaaahahaha... delete certain cab files EVERYTIME he reloads so he gets frustrated with the game and cancels his subscription... no game is worth THAT much.

Everquest is an online game, no? Have something happen to the internet connection for a few days... a week or so...

He has already made his choice.... it is up to you to make yours.... if you stay you will have to deal with it... if you leave perhaps it will show him you are not screwing around and maybe he will rethink his priorities.... umm... sheesh... hehe... I think the most I have ever spent online playing EQ is about 10 hours.... and my brain hurt.... 15 hours is a bit toooooo fucking long....

it is a very easy game to reload anyways seeing as how all your info is stored on thier sites....

even deleting it from your computer will have no effect on his account..... I was threatened by that also by my wife when I first started playing....

disconnecting the internet will not work either.... a phone call to the ISP and a check of all connections fixxes that problem... so either smash the puter and the EQ CD or leave him.... I bet if you leave him he will come begging for you in a couple of days.....

yeah, my first reaction was to go with aeternus' plan.

i know people that have dedicated months and years to games. once they're out though, they realise and a few of the will swear never ever to touch that game again. i don't know how they snapped out of it though.

not necessarily... not if done right. he will leave with the bitter aftertaste of treachery by SONY if everytime he reloads the software, the second time he logs on it dies...

if you are computer savy, do something to the fan...that will let him get into the game, but the computer will sit in a locked up state...

it's devastated our computer...there should be a little power cord that you can just disconnect...like any addiction, he needs help...but it's up to you if it's something you feel would work, or if it would be just easier to let him go...

If it's something he has to pay for and you two share the financial account...stop payment, cancel the charge...i'm not sure how they do it...but no money, no game...tell them that it's your son who's hooked...any good business would not risk angering the parent of a minor...

ultimately it's up to you what to do...but i know the lure of pc addiction...my husband turned the computer off, and banned me when we first got the box...i was more concerned with keeping him happy than my own tendency for addicitive behavior...if he's made his choice, you have to make yours.

my sister is in the same realtionship,but i bleive her and her hisband and in a better realtionship now...i makes me feel bad for her.except he is always on x-box online ..forget the game name...

While working(i am seasonal) i played 2-20 hours a week.
She decided that that was too often!!
That included letting her son play as well!!
Course that included doing emails and being on DF as well!!!!
Hell, i went AFK in game and left the house with her once(for near 3 hours) to do shopping and stuff. It still counted cause the puter was on!!!

When you cannot play, and realise you must do something else for the present, you are forced to think about what else you can (or should) do. You cannot escape back into the gamerealm, so next best thing... do what you're supposed to do in the first place. I've been there...

i think everyone has experienced some obssession with the computer...they're better than any drug..and cheaper too.

I've heard of a lot of people getting addicted to everquest actually. I say just save a few bucks and leave one day, spend a week somewhere else. When you come back if he doesn't care, get rid of the worthless piece of shit. No one should EVER put a computer game above his/her mate.

hmm ya i used to be real addicted to aol...specially when i lost mine(got trashed)...and now when i go on at my sisters there is like only 3 people worth talking to (kimmies one of em(xiam)..)

First - thank you so much Bitterlotus for bringing this up. Silverflame, Errant, and Dyshade? for your input for the positive. It's been nice talking to those I know - because after I post this - I am no doubt going to be banned. Oh this is just too good to ignore Darktiggr. Especially since I am the SHE that is being referring to. Let me just interject a few things here in my defense.
1). You played 2-20 hours a day in your dreams pal. I clocked you in at 8 hours daily most times. And being SEASONAL had NOTHING to do with it! Other than the fact that you couldnt play as long. Yea, you would wait until the weekend and totally absorb yourself in the computer, oblivious to anything else. Including my MUCH TOO LOUD kids. Oh yea, THANK YOU SO MUCH for taking time out of your busy schedule to do the things I asked you to do HALF-ASSED so you could get back to THE GAME.
2). LETTING my son play?? Don't do me any favors. You have GOT to be the biggest martyr I have met in this lifetime! Of course martyr ranks right up there with backstabber, doesnt it Dark? And lets talk about your son, you know, the one we would pick up on Friday and I got the pleasure of entertaining him (?) all weekend while Daddy had his face stuck in the computer. Whether it be DF, e-mail, or EQ - isnt the POINT! The POINT is when everything else comes second to the HOLY COMPUTER ... better find a different road Bitterlotus - because you're headed for a dead end on this one!
