What about not needing to label yourself? I don't know what it is that you consider about yourself as "Goth" traits, but you could just do whatever you want to do and let other people worry about what to call it. They could probably be "Yeah, he's Goth because...blah-blah-blah" or for lack of a better term to use in describing you. Keep them guessing...it's much more fun. As long as YOU know what you're about, that's what's most important anyhow.

No. Not in America and certainly not if you were to come to England. Infact in England we have lots of Gothic people who dress up as Goths. Infact I dress up occasionally in the winter months for Gothic fashion.

However if you go to France, you may find that they will look at you aswell as Italy who are the Queens of Critical.

I dont quite understand all of the "Be yourself" advice, especially when you are talking to someone who isnt sure of who they are. If feel you are a Goth, is there a uniform?

Not that Hugh Hefner is someone to necessarily admire, but I once saw him say that when he was young, he envisioned this personality with the cigars and red bathrobe etc. So he started to dress like that person and act like that person, and soon enough, he WAS that person. I would contend that Hugh was always that person, after all, he had that vision, not anyone else.

My advice: forget who you are and think about who you want to be. Wanna be a CEO asshole? Dress and act like one. Wanna be a unemployed unappreciated asshole? Dress and act like one.

To me that makes a lot of sence. Though I don't really fit any category 'cept for maybe a metalhead.

ok we shall all face it. appearance it does matter and that is because people judge people everyday by it. their is not a dam single thing that you can do about it. because it is just what it is. people think that this world is nothing but a fashion show on apearance. that people have to look a certain way to "fit" into a certain cliche with people. but of course you are having to understand how this is all having to work already. cause you wouldn't be sitting here having to ask us this kind of question for people to answer for you.

though i will agree with cherylhaynes when she said this i couldn't of have said it any better myself. but appearance isn't all that people judge either. is everything that they judge about a person. like for example.

1. the kind of food they eat
2. the kind of stuff that they are into
3. their smartness
4. the way they smile
5. how they laugh
6. their feet

just everything.. i do mean everything.

hmmm... do what i do, when you're not sure about something take the path of least resistance. make a healthy compromise with yourself. for example, you could dress up totally goth every day, or you could just wear normal-style clothes, though all black. that way, you don't have much extra work (i assume you would normally get dressed anyway) and you still get to make something of a statement. for piece of mind more than anything, i guess. grrr. if the idea of others thinking you look goth makes you happy, go for it. if you want them to think you act goth, go for that. but when you're not sure, make life easy on yourself.
