A couple of centuries past tribal and native people did indeed utilize an entire animal for use, so nothing would go to waste. The Native Americans honoured the animal before killing it, giving thanks and showed their gratitude by making sure that every single part of that animal was used in every possible manner. Ensuring that its death was not insignificant and purely for the sake of say a piece of its fur. The skin, the meat and the bones were used, as were all the intestines and organs. We hardly live in a world today where any one human being still gives thought to that, and I mean an urban world. Animals are bred to be slaughtered. There is an abundance of leather trade, yet there still seems a need to hunt obscure creatures by the gazillion (exaggeration) to make one fur coat. There is neither logic nor heart involved with that. The problem stems from mankind not realizing that animals are sentient beings, and yes ages past the eating of meat was a necessity for survival, as were all parts involved with the specific animal. I don't believe in the eating of living flesh, yet as much as all these things are related I think they can be very isolated. For instance there is the question of mass breeding (and the immense land it takes to say feed one hundred cows whereas that land could feed a thousand people if used for agriculture and planting of vegetables), and the insidious slaughter of exotic animals for not just their skins but also their meat. Does anyone really have to eat fucking giraffe steak? When there is such an abundance of cow/sheep/pig meat available? These animals are bred FOR mass consumption, wildlife isn't. Then the question of the leather industry, are these really the by-product of animals that were bred for their meat? Do any of us really know that, or is that simply a justification for the sheer pleasure (and it is SUCH a pleasure) of wearing leather? I don’t know the answer to that, but even within that contradiction I could never advocate the senseless killing of little furry animals so one woman could wear a fur coat. So in that essence, yes I’d much rather go naked that wear fur!

I'd rather slaughter countless furry animals and watch them go extinct than expose any part of my body to the light of day.

what about wool? do they make minx wool? that could be interesting... shaved minx and all... i love wool. it's all warm and stuff.
sure we have synthetic fibres that could almost replace these, but they haven't. why? are they not as 'good'? maybe. acrylic jumpers are no way as good as woollen ones. have you seen my marbles?

The state of endangered species is precisely that because of the poachers and hunters that seek the rhino’s horn or the minx's coat. It's because of humanity's greed and illusion of superiority that has brought so many animal species to extinction. And the manner in which cattle is farmed for the slaughterhouses I would believe extinction being a damn side better fate than the former! | elephants that are hunted for ivory are often not killed before they take the tusks. they're left to suffer and die if that is what it comes to. i hate ivory jewellery and furniture etc. there's something i think we could do without.
are the cattle used for meat the same as those used for leather?
are there better breeds for meat than for leather?
cow experts? have you seen my marbles?

i see that as weird as well. i've met too many preachey type vegatarians that are hipocritcal to take them very seriously anymore. sure there are times where i will abstain from meat. but i don't find a need to tell everyone around me. have you seen my marbles?

I wear my own fur. 'Tough thin haired, it suits me fine. And when things get cold, cotton brings warmth instead.
My second skin is not that of an animal... ... Time has no bearing... ...when the whiteout begins...

I am definately against it...
Remember, there will be one day that we are going to use human skin to make clothes...
(Did I say that? Yuck..) I want to live in a world of peace
Without conflict, like the one I’ve seen in my dreams.

(Did I say that? Yuck..) | Some cultures actually did that. Make shields/armor out of the skin of the fallen enemy warriors... I forgot the name, I'll have a look.
It's not all that different. But human skin is like very thin leather... not really suited for tailoring. ... Time has no bearing... ...when the whiteout begins...

Yeah. Try Nazis.
And, um, that guy in Silence of the Lambs. *nods* But he had trouble with it. Human skin's not good for wearing. Plus you'd have to be skinnier than the person whose skin you wanted to wear... but if they were fat then it'd be all.. loose and stretched and horrible...
*is possibly thinking too much about this*
