well, the concert isn't for a while yet, so i still have some time to think about how i might approach this matter with the teacher.

Just be cool. Dignity and calm. You don't need to debate with her about it. Whatever her dicision, walk away with a smile. I know the priciples behind the issue bother you, but choose your battles. You can plan your tactics later if you feel you need to. Run scenarios through your head, I know how confronting it can be. "Excuse me Mrs Hardarse, I really don't feel comfortable wearing a dress and was hoping it would be alright for me to wear the same thing as the guys?" Then Shut-up. The longer you don't open your mouth the better your chances because she will feel she has to give why nots, and she won't be able to; and if she does, you will have the issues to deal with later.
