I don't deny it, I say that it is useless to us in terms of gaining any kind of satisfaction or happiness from life... We invent symbols to represent a Yang Mills field, but we can no more visualise it in our minds than we can say what colour the wind is... Where it is useful is in understanding how the world works at the submicroscopic level, which in turn can potentially open the door to radical advances in mathematics...

Ever been in a relitive morality debate? I hate it when people make out that they can do whatever they want because somewhere, sometime, somone was dumb enough to think it was the right thing to do.

I've been in a few political debates that went on to relaitve morality... Strangely enough I was branded a cultural relativist... I'm not sure what that actually meant, but I don't believe it was a compliment...

By the sounds of it, its like a subsection of relitive morailty based on culture. It means you`re a person that thinks morality is only relivant to a particular culture. One countries or person from that country`s moral beliefs dont have any jurisdiction on any other culture`s beliefs no matter what they might be.

Yeah, I thought that might be the case... I can't even remember what the debate was about, but I don't actually hold that opinion... I think it stemmed from my being against attacking Iraq...

Dont know how they could come up with that without reading the thread. Sounds like a strange judgement to make.
I was anti war too all the way through it, I still doubt the benifits with outweigh the costs.You cant force democracy on people, its something that has to be eased into.

i said that before i read this thread. it had changed my mind about the conclusion that i first came to in the other thread.
