A picture in the posts? Well that's gonna depend on what forum you are in, there is no html in friendship, and journals dont have html and the [img] tags...but umm...yea...
the avatar? go to the user control panel (User CP near the top of the screen on the left) then just in the menu list click the "edit avatar" and you can upload from your computer or from a webpage.
