I wasn't sure where to post this but since more then one goth i know is fascinated by it, i thought why not post it here.
I have always been interested in cemeteries. Maybe an obscure interest but it just fascinates me. This place where you end when you’ve walked through the last door of life. This place where I and so many others find solitude, find some peace from crazy city life. I must say that sometimes you cannot even be alone on a graveyard. Very annoying. I need to be alone a lot and you can do that best in the woods or at these dark places full of beauty.
I love to walk and sit down and think, contemplate about all kinds of things. It’s often very serene and if there are people around they won’t disturb you thinking that you are visiting your loved one. I haven’t encountered much death in my life yet but I’m afraid that in the future I will visit these places for other reasons too.
Most cemeteries have a wide selection of different sorts of graves. Everyone can probably find a tombstone that fascinates him or her. Behind every stone there is a story. It’s almost a
challenge to discover who is buried there. What is the story. How did this person die.
On some graves you can find beautiful epitaphs. Some of the texts on graves are very common but there are beautiful ones too. It’s always nice to look for poems and other
things that people have felt the need to put on a tombstone.
The way graves are designed is also from very boring to amazingly beautiful. I once saw a grave, well actually it seems to have been two graves, next to eachother. There was a wall in between that separated them and on top you could see 2 hands holding eachother. This symbolized the fact that these two persons could not be together in life. In death they can be one. Death can even be romantic in a way. If I remember correctly then these 2 persons belonged to a different faith. They were not allowed to marry. This is the kind of grave that makes you want to visit more and more burial grounds.
There are plenty of official cemeteries but there are also little, hidden ones. These small, obscure ones are also interesting enough to take a look at. Usually you walk into one or you have to know about them. There is a lot of information on the internet about this subject. I’ll give a few urls at the end of this post.
At times you find graves of famous people. On Père Lachaise in Paris you can find the graves of Oscar Wilde, he converted to Catholicism in the last years of his life, composer Chopin, Gustav Dore and Jim Morrison.
Does anyone know of more famous people on cemeteries? And where? Tell me what do you think is so special about their graves?
And tell me are you fascinated by these places in any way? And why?

I agree on the cemetery part, being interesting.
And when it comes to the suicide pics....
In my neighbourhood there lives a man. He tried to blow off his head with a shotgun a couple of years ago. But he failed, it didnt kill him. He kind of missed, and instead af blowing out his brains, he just shot off his face.
Its kinda scary meeting a pissed drunk old man without a face, (kinda like mr punch) in the middle of the night. He is poor, who can not touch insanity without loosing his mind.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, breifed, debreifed or numbered.
I am following my fishie.

The shotgun face thing is more common than you think, I know of a woman who did that, and it isn't that you miss, its when you pull the trigger down the gun kicks up thus away from your face and you don't get the leathality. ____

I love cemetaries.
I have this wild interset in seeing who died and how long they lived, what their age was when they died.
Though I hate to see gravestones for babies or small children- that makes me sad.

Cemetaries simply are...
I like them in the winter in the old village near where I grew up when they're covered in snow next to an old church
It's a picture on life 400 years ago.

That wishing and the crime were one
And heaven punishes desires
As much as if the deed were done.
If wishing damns us, you and I
Are damned to all our hearts content.
Come then we may at least enjoy
Some pleasure for our punishment..."

Isn't it odd how people hair and nails appears to still grow after they are dead. Some people say there was some more oomph. Some people say they just got smaller, but the bones and stuff stayed the same size. It takes longer to decay.

I love going to graveyards especially the ones that are hundreds of years old. I feel this peaceful calm as soon as I enter the gateways of a cemetary. Sometimes I lay over the top of a grave and wonder about the person's life or I talk to them. Sounds strange, but the dead DO talk...You just have to know how to listen. I get a lot of inspiration from cemetaries when I write my poetry and it clears out my head if I've been feeling depresse/sad.

One of my favorite graveyards is not really a graveyard but a burial ground of sorts. It belongs to the Dilmuns, a society long dead, the burial mounds found within are over 4000 years old, a couple of them have been excavated. They are absolutely beautiful. oh i love graveyards, i like to make rubbings of the tomb stones.
i was gonna have my birthday "party" at one but my friends parents thought it was morbid. i think that it would have been fun we wouldn't have disturbed the place just a few people walking through and looking at the tomb stones. I think that some people have the most interesting things written to be remembered by.

i love really old cemetaries. but we don't have REALLY old cemetaries around here. the oldest graves are maybe 100-150 years old. i used a local cemetary as the subject of my painting board last year. i took a huge stack of photographs which my mother hated being superstitous and all. although she's generally not a spiritual person. i think she just thought i was morbid. there's a lot of compositional potential in a cemetary, and all sorts of symbolism you can play around with. it's a great subject. i was suprised how understanding the school was, since i went to a catholic school. sure they thought it a bit morbid but they let me go ahead with it. my friend used the same cemetary for her photography board. it was cool how we could compare our boards on the same subject. have you seen my marbles?

Well usually cemetaries are not my thing. For one reason is cause i have a very creative emagination. I'll look at a grave then i'll emagin hands popping out and dragging me in. Never being able to get out. I don't know why i fear cemetaries. No body made fun of me about them. Or even tried to scare me. Something about them just tracks me off. Maybe i should give them a chance. What do you say? To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. My girlfriend and I will go into the cemetary near her house and just sit and look at the stars and the view from it. Its very peaceful, though some of my friends think its morbid. Hey, bread is a good time for me...a-woodle-oo-doo, singing bread is a good time for EVERYbody...

I like to visit the cemetary in my town and lay on the tombstone, and pretend I am the deceased and when someone comes by yell at them for disturbing me...

i love cemetaries i don't like most people and i find it relaxing to be by meyself and think and i sometimes go to cemtaries to do that but there is a skate park right by ours so i find it hard to stay there for to long. My fav. cemeatries are the ones with like 1000 year old graves where you can almost hear the deads whispers! *sigh* that is the greatest. Embrace the dying of the light

Although, I'll need to use the darkroom to develop my latest. The Sick Rose.
O Rose, thou art sick!
The invisible worm
That flies in the night,
In the howling storm,
Has found out thy bed
Of crimson joy:
And his dark secret love
Does thy life destroy.

i too have a love for old cemetaries. i saw a couple REALLY old ones in salem, mass. that was cool because they were a little reminder in a peaceful place of how awful life was for many of them. i like to sit in this one cemetary right near my house and sit near a tombstone and write in my journal or just relax. i am no longer going to come back to this site. thank for to those i care about for having me here To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater.
