its not that its okay to have one type of religion and be goth but more of how you're raised. this is where religious and moral values come into play. much of the more radical christianity condemns goth because they feel that its somehow evil and a sin while other religions are more liberal in their thinking and don't care what you wear or the fact that you may question your own religion's beliefs. however, just because you're christian doesn't mean in any way, shape or form that you aren't allowed to be goth.

There are radicals for any religion. Radical Christianity does not condemn Goth. I've never seen that but for the times when they confuse it with Wicca, and that doesn't even count anyway.

Because a lot of so called Goths are just rebelling against their parents. Ooo look at me I`m a occultist in league with Satan etc. They can stand it when "one fo their own" sides with the great opresser.

not true, i know of radical christian parents who associate goth with satanism. how they make a connection between beliefs and a style of clothing i'll never know.

Its a connection they make, but its not like its preached by everyone in the religion. There is nothing in the bible that states "those who wear dark clothes, are fascinated by the dark, and are enlightened are in league with the Devil." Or anything like that.

Those are "goths" rather than Goths. They call themselves that, but they aren't.

Hence the so called part.

i still don't think many of the radicals would have their kids walking around in dark clothing and reciting poetry about suicide, though i suppose that doesn't always have to be the radicals who feel that way.

They certainly won't encourage it, but its not mandated throughout the religion that such a person is in league with the devil.

Think about the Confessional Poets...Sexton, Berryman, etcetera. All of them wrote about dark, depressing things, shunned by society...all of them committed suicide as well...and yet, now, they are recognized as an important part of American literature. Its all perspective.

You should have a read up on the Salem Witch Hunts... They certainly know the meaning of excess those fundamentalists, you have to hand them that in retrospect...

being pagan, i am well read in the Salem Witch Hunts/Trials. i do agree with you on that, though.

If it wasn't so serious, it would have been hilarious. I'm glad we live in days where the poweres that be have less evangelical zeal...

why would being pagan make you well read in the witch trials? or handnt you known that they werent killing real witches? just people accused of witchcraft? Where does Being Pagan come into play with any of this?

I'd imagine Pagan's would have a special interest in Witch Trials... Certainly a lot of books on Paganism that I've read have mentioned the "burning times".

I was about to say the same sort of thing...it definately would spark an interest in the time period.

When those books refer to the burning times I think they are mainly talking about the Inquisition.

still, it does provoke an interest into such matters, especially when there are now ironically many pagans who live in Salem today.
