Do you think that Wearing large chains are more of a Gothic thing or more of a Punk thing? Is there a way to wear them to make others asume you are one or the other?

I am only looking for opinions and the outlooks of others on this subject. I have heard multiple views on this subject and I wont to see what some of the people on this site think.

Dpending on how one looks at it:

Pnk partly defined by a movement of youth that encouraged the wearing of worthless things to rebel against the materialist views of the time wore saftey pins and other 'junk' so chains can work into that.

worn: hanging on shit, attatched to saftely pins or as jewellery.


Goth would be more as jewellery I suppose. Nah I think it's more a punk thing any how. Only because I don't see a lot of goths round here displaying chains.

Chains. Hmm... I think this may actually be a metal thing, with che chains, spiked collars, black T's etc...you should probably go back a few more years...most goth's can't wear heavy chains because it puts too much stress on their fragile bones...and the punks were more into leather...but these are just my observations...

I don't really like using labels but for the sake of clarification I tend to do, so here goes... Goths, Punks, Ravers, Metal heads, Bikers, Skateboard kids, slaves and more than likely anyone not fitting into any of those groups could wear chains...

In my experience, participation, and observations It seems that the industrial sized, large chains are worn more by punks. Perfectly natural to anyone who's heard the jokes about the three punks (one has a baseball bat, the other a lead pipe, and one a chain). Goth's do well with chains too, except they're more for looks than anything. Here's some real life examples I've seen:

Chain Suspenders: Punk
Long chains wrapped repeatedly around the forearm: Punk
Chains dangling from a collar: Gothic
Chains used to secure certain garments at the breast: Gothic
Chain side detail on pants: Either

anyway, i wear a couple large chains aound my neck, and a couple small ones around my wrist... really don't have a label for myself though....

When i've seen the larger chains, they've been on people that seemed more punkish than anything. The smaller delicate chains i've seen used for detail work on people you might consider gothic. In the gothic set the chains have a more romantisized look, placement, feel.

Just so people know, I am not asking you to lable yourself for wearing the chains. Just give me you opinions on what lable the chains support more. And the labels can be something outside of Gothic or Punk, as long as you give a reason.

It depends on the kind of chain, but it is more of a metal thing. Metal heads were wearing them and using them before punk.

I think that chains are more punk than gothic, but it doesn`t matters as long you like wearing them!

chains? i would say a little of both. but every1 wears them at my school so i would say a temporary fad picked up by both goths and punks.
