Okay, hypothesis. You find out someone you thought you knew and liked was a full-on racist. Suddenly every time you see them you feel uncomfortable and a repugnance even though you still find them amusing and you kinda like them.
Do you....
a) Slay them to within an inch of their lives?
b) Ignore them?
c) Act as though nothing has happened?
d) Dis 'em at every opportunity?
Okay, now, without assuming either of us are white.

how i would take the approach is just discuss with the person how their racism makes you feel...there's a difference between being racist and ignorant...i know what it's like because at one point i was ignorant...i grew up in a racist environment, with little to no other races involved...then one day i moved to the city.
i ended up with a puerto rican roomate with a child by a black man...one night we were getting drunk and started talking about racism...after half a bottle she pointed out that i wasn't racist, i was ignorant...my opinions on other races was based on other peoples opinions...by the summer time some of my best friends were hispanic and black...
it's a matter if you want the friendship or not...if you don't feel they are a person you could continue being with or not...it's up to you, but why are the racist?

Thanks Jordyn, They are racist mainly through up-bringing, and having been mildly affected by the 'affirmative action' policy. Seems very closed off over even discussing the issues. I now feel every word spoken is tainted with the same rancid breathe and comes from a place I don't want to know. That's not really fair is it? The friendship is not worth pursuing, but do I have the right to openly sneer at her?
Thanks Errant....I needed that.

Sneering leads to nothing good..Attempts to improve people however usualy fail..I myself am ignorant but willing to judge everyone on thier own merits. However I have been so very stupid in my judgements, what can you do but accept and move on?

Oh come on,....just a few sneers and an occasional smart-ass comment?
Damn karma......always gets in the way of a little self satisfying instant pay-back.

Yeah, I'm pretty much over it now. My bouts of frustrated angst don't usually last for long. I still get a slight shudder of revoltion when I come in contact with her.
Thanks guys for talking me through a possible axe-wielding episode.
