That would only help so much though. I do agree however. I dont buy the drill ANWAR and all is saved argument, nor do I buy the we arent saved if we drill ANWAR so dont drill at all argument.
We need to expand on our refineries and drilling while trying to convert as much of our infrastructure to new energy sources as we can.
The problem right now isnt that gas is scarce its that weve peaked in oil production, and demand is still increasing because of growing populations.
Gas is only going to get more expensive, wars will be fought over access to oil, and our economy will eventually begin to crumble since transportation will become much to expensive for the ordinary person.

ideas -
wind power. more turbines, in windy places. like cover the tops of mountains with them or something.
solar panels in sunny places. like iceland. or something like that. places with not much night time. and in the desert and shit like that.
feed a fat dude beans and stick a pipe up his arse.
burn shit. you know, in power plants and stuff. burn shit. shit burns well, cow shit does, i know that. use the fumes for more burning or whatever, and the heat to boil water to turn the turbines and all that.
burn everything that can be burned. fuck landfill, stick it all in a big fuck off furnace and burn it and use that to boil water and all that kinda stuff with the boilers and turbines and blah blah blah.
stick a rocket up those science nut's arses and get them to invent cold fusion.
sort out this hydrogen car engine shit so its cheap and stuff and can be used to power houses too.

Break up the oil companies for the time being, start investing in Bio-diesel till hydrogen becomes a feasable fuel source Farewell Little Brother, You Shall be Missed 1989-2007 I'm gonna kick you ass for this though

convince anytown America to put a refineray in there back yard. Its not just about gas oil is used to make plastic or in other words just about everything. Part of the problem is the lack of any adminstration making a conserdted effort to invest in oil alternatives.
Get over the fact that oil companies are getting rich this is capitlism at its finest. You want to see a real gas shortage have the goverment step in and regulate prices.

Well true, we can't JUST drill ANWAR, but its a start. In addition we should build more refineries, enhance current refineries, and begin converting more of the country to Nuclear Power.

Half or more of nevada is unpopulated desert. Cover that crap with solar panels and wind-turbine towers Collect the energy and distribute it.
Focus on more friendly alternatives while slowly weening ourselves off of our oil habit. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. o.k. then explain this past year to me then, explain to me how they could make so much in 1 year if it is starting to cost more? Explain to me how in under 6 years the price has almost tripled? Demand doesn't increase that fast. And you can't say they aren't up to something when I live in a state that has almost a $2 billion budget surplus that has come from the oil industry profits. Nah, if it were resulting from just a supply issue, they wouldn't be making as much money as they have been, and you also can't say that a 16 cent increase in 1 day isn't just a little bit on the rediculous side Farewell Little Brother, You Shall be Missed 1989-2007 I'm gonna kick you ass for this though

Did anyone see that hamster powered car they made in Japan? It was pink and hamsters powered it with their little wheels. It only went 20 miles an hour, but hey that's not too bad.
What if your car was like the cars in The Flintstones?
We do have other sources of power, but they will be ignored until there are no more wars to be fought. War is a billion dollar industry. have you seen my marbles?

On a more serious note, a company tried to put wind turbines along the tops of some hills in New Zealand. They got opposed though because people claimed it would ruin the view. I'm all for wind power, but I think a lot of people are a bit "not in my back yard"... have you seen my marbles?

This is an econmic discussion. Simply put at this time gas is still "cheaper" or more econimicaly feasible then the alternatives. When there is a change in the status que ie alternatives become equal to or more econmically feasible then oil the country will begin to switch to the alternatives. This switch will begin in my opinion long before the supply of oil dryes up. Will wars be fought over oil, perhaps to insure that countries maintain stratigic advantages, will econmies crumble, unlikely although there may be some set backs. Over the long run all nations should be in better econmic positions once the change occurs.

Or try salad oil or deep fryingpan oil, cars run on it, but you will leave a distinct smell of french fries behind you.... "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated." - Mahatma Ghandi

When I moved from MN out to CA we drove through Texas, NM and Arizona and there were wind turbines everywhere. I was excited to see so many since in MN I had only seen ONE in my entire life. My parents have 120 acres in MN and they're working on a plan to put wind turbines out on the back 40 (Yeah, they really do have a back 40). They're running into red tape however, even though it's their land. If they do ever get them built, it's supposed to cut their electricity bill to almost nothing. They're also trying to get two or three solar panels on the roof just in case the windmill plan doesn't pan out.
As far as not wanting windmills in your backyard, put solar panels on your roof, or on the top of schools or buildings with large area. Early in life I had to choose between honest arrogance and hypocritical humility. I chose the former, and have seen no reason to change.

Guys its not the methods ,Wind ,solar ,and Bio ..Its the $$$ behind the $$ wants us to keep using oil.
If there was ever a shortage in oil IT WAS caused by us ..Some ppl are just now hearing about BIO-DEISEL (SP!) but its been around for years !,Wind mills OMG ! THERE are THOSANDS of them along the highways ..how ever you'll notice only like 3 out of 10 are on ! The rappid increase in the COST of OIL was made so we could start useing bio-D without costing the OIL Companys Billions ! an another funky thing ...We were able to be at war for over 7 years under Clinton and Gas prices didnt jump $.10 a day !! ALL-ARE-ONE
