If there was ever a shortage in oil IT WAS caused by us ..Some ppl are just now hearing about BIO-DEISEL (SP!) but its been around for years !,Wind mills OMG ! THERE are THOSANDS of them along the highways ..how ever you'll notice only like 3 out of 10 are on ! The rappid increase in the COST of OIL was made so we could start useing bio-D without costing the OIL Companys Billions ! an another funky thing ...We were able to be at war for over 7 years under Clinton and Gas prices didnt jump $.10 a day !! | Maybe its not the method, maybe its just a small fact that oil is so fucking powerful we havent found something that can reliably replace it. Solar? Wind? Give me a fucking break.
We need nuclear power plants. Thats the only thing thats going to get the job done.

On an episode of Mythbusters the guys were testing different ideas/myths on alternatives to fuel. They tried used vegetable oil and fed it into a vehicle. The engine ran and was only 10% less efficient than diesel. Considering how many restuarants there are in America and how much used veggie oil they produce, it'd be something to help slow down how much gasoline is consumed.

We need nuclear power plants. Thats the only thing thats going to get the job done. | As long as it's cost-effective, it don't matter much how concentrated the power is. If you can collect enough, you can concentrate it in batteries or hydrogen or somethin. The sun will be burning and the wind will be blowing long after the oil's gone.

If you have to cover 90% of the country with cornfields to make enough to convert to a new fuel youre literally fucking yourself.

Well then it wouldn't be cost-effective.

It MAY be cheaper on SOME levels to cover the country with cornfields than to refine crude oil, however 1 can be done with minimal effort more efficiently, but costs more because of environmental issues.
I still say oil is better and its more cost effective because youre not giving up potential land for current issues even though the cost in the mean time is cheaper.

Ultimately it's gonna come down to restraint. People have to consume less products and burn less energy to really solve the problem.

Even if they did, the fact that more people are born every day would make that impossible.
There is no cure for our oil addiction, and eventually we will all suffer for it.
I suggest reading some of this http://www.lifeaftertheoilcrash.net/

In Hawaii alone they could grow thousands of acres all year round. One crop after another. Replacing the dead cane industry at the very least. Oooh... good thought! We'll use pigshit! I'm suprised after Thunderdome came out no one tried to make a machine to collect methane from pigshit. If there's ever a nuclear holocaust, I'm gonna get me a strap on mohawk, some spiked leather undies and surf the sand with a dune buggy that runs off pigshit.

And legalizing hemp is a hippy stoners dream, forget it.

I agree, even if it IS totalitarian. We need to control the human vermin who keep shitting out babies! Sure, it's creepy what China has done, but seriously. At the least, maybe incentives, like higher tax breaks for those with two or less children, or something like that.
Here's an even BETTER idea! Necromancy! We reanimate our loved ones, and make them work on bicycle run windmills for our power. The extras could carry bats and kill babies. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

Fuck nature. Humanity all the way. And when we are ready to, we will populate Mars.
Fuck environmentalists.
