This is a pretty simple question..
A person tends to be someone who finds games hard nowadays, and doesn't even know what the atari was like.. nor the nes..
A player is someone who lived with an atari joystick in one hand and a paciphier*sp* in the other... or someone who actually knows a good game when they play one.
So... answer the question you damn dirty apes. (\ /)

I am definately a player. I got a NES when I was real young and have been playing games ever since. Even though I am almost completely broke I try to get as many consoles and games as I possibly can.

Ok, What do you mean?? Are you saying that the games of this day and age are easy, when you say "A person tends to be someone who finds games hard nowadays"?? If that's the case... Then I don't see how you find the games of the old days hard.
Ok.... A person is someone who finds games 'hard'? Well, what do you consider hard? I find many games hard. But, I'm still a player. I've played games every since I was very young. But, even when I was young, those games were easier than shit. And those games got old after you beat them the first time. The games nowadays change depending on which path you choose, many take 40 or more hours to beat (if you actually play the game and try to get a decent score), and there is a whole lot more that is required of your brain.
A player is a person who has played games since they were young and know a good game when they see one?....So....?? I'm still misunderstanding. What exactly do you consider a good game? I find a game that has a good story, good characters, with multiple endings, a great re-play value, etc., to be a good game. If you say a 'good classic' game, then that changes what I consider a good game to be. A 'good classic' would be Zelda, Punch-Out, Metroid, Castlevania, etc...
Things change. The gaming industry thrives in the meaning of "Evolution". You consider those classics to be great games? Well, sure, I'll agree with you. But they are my taste anymore. The games of the Atari and NES are nothing compared to many of the games of this day and age... I don't see how anyone can consider those classic games to be "hard".
Anyways, I can answer your questions a whole lot better if you specify a little more on what a "Player" is and what a "Person" is...

Im a person! I consider games as entertainment and have nothing to do with the life I lead. I like to play games but I do not revolve my life around a console....... Therefore I am a person..... To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

Well when I was younger....I used to play video games more, because I didn't really have many freinds close to me......Video games were my number one hobby........
But now.....I am more of a person and a player....I know how to balance both of them.....I have many new intrestest now....so I'm not THAT much of a player now, but I still now Great games when I see them I like to read about video games on the internet and magazines like Electronic Gaming Monthly to keep up and inform myself of upcoming games and stuff To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. Playa.
I dont like how if you choose higher difficulty settings you get the same ending on most games now though.Doesnt give me a reason to try harder. Work is of two kinds: first, altering the position of matter at or near the earth's surface relatively to other such matter; second, telling other people to do so.

Loki, nice response.
Simply put, I find almost every single game put forth by the "gaming industry" *wonders if there is a better term* to be highly ridiculous, since almost every single one of them is:
1. Easy
2. Boring
3. Great graphics but shitty gameplay
That said... I want you to think for a moment... think about games like Dragon Warrior... games which took 100+ hours to best, and had more replayability then anything I've touched in the past five years.
Think about games like Mario Brothers RPG, which was nicely done, or Earthbound...
Those games didn't rely on "Great graphics" to win people over, instead they relied on originality and great gameplay.
Now we look to things like MGS, MGS2, FF7-10, and all the other crap being spewed out, and you can quickly realize how freaking pitiful the games are... how mediocre.. how.... icky.
In essence, a player is someone akin to a hardcore player, although strangly they are not exactly that either... they are inbetween hardcore and a person... That means they won't ace games in two seconds (which you probably could nowadays), nor does it mean they'll struggle along during the more dull and simplistic parts of games (FF8 excluded, since strangly if you want to find EVERYTHING, you need to be told about them... except if you go throughout the whole bloody world pixel by bloody pixel.)
So what am I getting at?
hell if I know... I'm just bored.. and I thought that'd be a neat thing to post :p (\ /)

Ok, I get you now.
Alright, first off... MGS, and FF7-9 were good games...MGS2 turned out to be lame... FF9 was great...but that's my opinion, of course. When it comes down to it, graphics aren't important to me. The use of my brain, and what the game does for my imagination are truly what is important to me. The way I feel about games are complex, I suppose. I can play most any game and be entertained, and like the game. But... I find a truly good game to be like the books I like read. If I can sit down, turn on the TV, and turn on the game... And sit there for 5 hours straight, playing a game, then that's when I've found something good. If a game can get deep, and has a story line that just compels you to think harder and to make your imagination turn to wildfire...then I've found something good. I know it's whatever your opinion is, whenever it comes to what games you consider good. It's just so hard to explain... I keep feeling like I'm leaving something out...
Ok, I'm just going to spit it out. I am a player. When I buy a game, I don't play it... I live it. I will do everything, I will search everywhere, I will find everything, and I will not leave any secret behind. And I have a rule I follow... well, I follow it the best I can, but I don't ask for help, I don't look at strategy guides, or any of that bullshit.
Anyone can think any game is good. Companies wouldn't stick it on the shelves if no one thought it was good. So, everyone has their opinion...
I just feel like I'm leaving something out... And it's irritating the fuck out of me.

ok... preston's on a retro rant again with loki spinning counter arguements... both have points though i disagree with preston... and despite that oh so intellectual burst of energy that blood princess gave off, i must make a distinction...
i am a GAMER... i game for fun, profit, and stress relief... and i resent the notion that i do not know a good game when i see one... a "good" game is one that entertains me and holds my awe and attention. for some that means tony hawk... for preston that might mean Kung-fu, Pitfall, or DigDug... for me that means a game that has story, style, artistry, and atmosphere...
shall we just let this be or must we have another old vs new skool arguement? ___Nick_the_Rogue___ To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

No this won't be a battle between the old and new school type thread... since there are some "new school" games which I do infact enjoy to play.
One of the more tiresome things I dislike is that there are the "new school players", which I call people rather then players. (\ /)

Loki...perhaps the numbness is from trucker's seat syndrome? and i have only one reason to resent u right now... u have a PS2 w/ MGS2... other than that... meh
Preston... i hate to say it, but you're sounding like a crotchity old man too set in his ways to accept all thsoe newfangled technologies... kind of like my sister and computers or my surrogate niece and anything before cds... i like emulators as much as the next Gamer and yes I DO get pissed off when some fourth grader pops a buck worth of twopence in my machine and proceeds to castrate me in front of my Clan... but that is no reason to say that games these days are just eye candy... ___Nick_the_Rogue___ To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. Definitely a player. It was my generation that was gifted with the wondrous concept of the video arcade. I was blessed in the fact that my father managed one. Woohoo! Free credits on the machines for me and my friends. Ask me how many asteroids I blew up. Ask me how many times I led Pac-man in his insatiable hunger, devouring dots, fruits, and ghosts alike. I've led Tron into victory against the master computer and defeated enemy knights from the back of flying ostriches...
Atari? The summer I got my Atari system, my grandfather had to go out and buy himself a new television. I was playing Defender for 4 hours non-stop. I'd just broken 3.5 million points, and still had 4 lives left when the vertical hold on the TV blew out...
You're goddamned right I'm a fucking player! Shadowborn To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
