What makes a PSX game the best out of the system?

Well, I don't know what to tell you Johnny boy. I would say it depends on the genre. In RPG's, I would say game mechanics (gameplay, same difference), length, difficulty, & most importantly, a great storyline.
Action, well basically intense action, few puzzles, & great music.
Fighters. I would just have to say cool looking characters, & moves that are easy to pull off (none of that up, down, left+down+up+left+right+down+a+b crap.)
I always look for story, replay value, fun factor, overall gameplay (easy cotrols, or uresponsive, inadequate controls)
But lately video games suck. I can beat just about any game within a week. I remember classic Nintendo games being harder than games that are out now. You'll probably find this sad, funny, maybe even pathetic, but I never beat the first Mario Bros. game for Nintendo! Damn that bowser & the millions of hammers he tossed! Yet, I was able to beat Resident Evil 1, 2, & 3 in less than a week (not all at once, all at different months)
I didn't really argue with ya, but tell me what your view on gaming is. "You got it all wrong Holy Man. I do believe in God...and I hate the fucker." (Ridic- Pitch Black)

Never heard of that game, but I'll check it out. Oh, one game I would recommend, if you like intense Contra-like action (& I mean from the NES days) you should try playing Apocalypse. It's a game with Bruce Willis. It's got so much action, but I will say the camera angles can be akward at certain crucial jumps, which will result in those frustrating deaths. that & the final boss is a cheap ass, but that is one title I would recommend you rent, if you haven't tried it yet. I forgot to mention that Bruce Willis's two or three catch phrases get annoying very quickly in that game too... "You got it all wrong Holy Man. I do believe in God...and I hate the fucker." (Ridic- Pitch Black)

What makes a great game?
Hmm... lets see...
First off, with an RPG, the story line must be intense, the graphics must be nice, the fmv's wicked, and the music must be good also... One game that fits most of this is FF7, i mean, that game rocked because the storyline was awesome, the graphics were good, the music was good, and the fmv's were great also....
I think FF7 should be a standard for newer RPG's Life is not all it seems,
once you've dreamt the acydic dreems.

One of the amazing things I have noticed is the incorrect gradings of the raters.
Such as FF8... it was given perfect scores by every reviewer that I know of...
FF9 is the same.
Now then... if you want intese action then try BBC...
Example:
You start out waiting for the ball to launch, and boom it launches, and instantly you have to slam on the turbo to race over to the ball before the opponent gets it, slip by the guy, and score, otherwise you're in for a hell of a time if you're on the hard difficulty...
The fastest I've ever managed to score on that game is one second into the first round... and that was on the straight and easy arena against a slow fucker...
The longest was.. ooohhhh thirty seconds on hard difficulty against one of the nastiest bitches in one of the nastiest places...
According to reviewers the game's camera angles are disorienting... which is correct. They are supposed to be this way though to make you feel like you are there, being spun around in circles constantly, trying to keep track of a fast moving ass, while trying to shoot him down as well with whatever you fucking have.
Try it... just try it.. try to fucking win the game without losing a single round on the hardest difficulty...
Addictive, entertaining, intense... Five out of Five, or Ten out of Ten, you're pick on whatever you wanna rate the games as...
FF7... nine out of ten.
FF8... six out of ten.
Legend of Legaia... eight out of ten.. (oh so much potential)
Everyone else, go ahead and rate some games, even ones that have already been rated..

I just got Dynasty Warriors 2 for the Playstation 2 (Yes, I own a PS2 ALL YOU FOOLS BOW BEFORE MY MIGHT! And weep for my poor little maxed out credit card) Its pretty fun. I've been waiting for a war game where you are actually on the battlefield, slaughtering thousands in your efforts to reach the enemy officers. Unfortunately after purchasing the PS2 and game... I'm too damn poor to buy a memory card, and the first level gets boring after a while.
What that has to do with anything... I don't know. I'm gonna list my favorite games ever.
1. Metroid (NES) - Without a doubt the best game ever made period. The graphics for the time were superiour, the game was difficult, the story line was interesting, it was fun as hell, had several endings, a ton of weapons. Good fucking game.
2. Final Fantasy 2 (SNES) - Nobody try to tell me 7 was better. This game had the greatest story line of any video game ever. Sacrifices were made, loves were formed, rivalry, betrayal, friendship. It simply cant be beat. The characters also owned.
3. Dragon Warrior 3 (NES) - CLASSIC. Kickass story line, complicated dungeons, cool treasures... what more could you possibly want. Besides all that, this game was flat out fun
4. Test Drive 5 (PS) - Possibly the most addictive game of all time. I'm a huge racing game fan... and I think this is the best one ever made. Cool tracks, WHIP ASS cars, fun shit.
5. Mario Kart (SNES) - Don't deny it, you loved this fucking game. I remember the massive tournaments me and my friends would play. We would resolve fights with this game. Instead of hitting each other, we would hop into the bodies of Luigi or Bowser and obliterate each other with Red shells.
6. Final Fantasy 3 - Not better than 2, but still kickass. Mainly I put this on the list for one reason alone. Cyan. He is the coolest character from any of the FF games, and possibly the coolest video game character ever (with the exception of Samus).
7. Gauntlet (NES) - Elven Economics baby, I was the master. The fine art of zipping around and stealing all the treasure, leaving the Warrior to tank and get his ass kicked by all the bad guys. Shit this game was fun.
8. The Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past (SNES) - By far the best Zelda ever. I actually never owned this game, I rented it and kept it until it was beaten. Combine a sweet story line, kickass graphics, and excellent music, and you have an all around good game.
9. Final Fantasy (NES) - The game that started it all, I give it fat props simply for beginning the trend. It was so huge... so uncomprenhendably vast at the time. I loved it, and I still love it. And for any of you fools out there that don't know: Unequip those damn nunchucks from the Black Belt... he fights much better with his bare hands!
10. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (PS) - I literally played this game for 11 hours straight one day. But even WORSE than that, I have 3 friends that WATCHED me play this game for 11 hours straight. They sat on the couch, engrossed as I battled through zombies and vampires and bats and all kinds of evil shit. This game rules.
Theres my list. Hope you like it.

What makes a great psx game is if it's an rpg and has the words Final Fantasy in them.

I believe you have taken your hatred for the mainstream a bit too far. SMS sucked balls. It was the worst system ever. Atari kicked its ass. Kaleco Vision kicked its ass. Apple IIE kicked its ass. The little tetris game on my graphing calculator kicked its ass.

I actually developed my love for the system long before I developed my hate for mainstream culture. The SMS had better hardware and the games were better. Phantasy Star is regarded by most RPGers to be a god like game. There are actually a lot of SMS vs NES sites online. I'll find a few for you if I care enough.
You claiming your calculator is better is odd. Like I said, the hardware of Sega was superior to Nintendo. If you think the games were just bad, please tell me which you do not enjoy.

I never played one I really liked. I played one called Zillions, it was OK. Its the only one I can remember... that was a long damn time ago. NES had so many more games... and more importantly it had Metroid. Nothing will ever top Metroid.

I wish some people that I like to talk to would get on AIM!!! Like maybe a cutesy bunny!!!!! You gave me away to the angels
You sent me up to the sky
Now their wings fan the heat from the face you'll never touch

So you remember one game and from that you think it's worse than your calculator? Zillion was a good game, mmm...Yes, Nintendo won the fight in the US due to sheer number of games, but the quality of most NES games was less than good. http://www.emucamp.com/

Experience is what you need, experience, patience, kindness, and understanding... only then can you realize the fact that you can never agree totally on everything.
Until then, I shall leave you two to continue this conversation to try and win each other over to their side. "Why should I bother telling you what to do, when I can just laugh at you?"
