I have been looking at getting into this and any insight would be welcome. You can look at it as a metaphor for the fleeting nature of human life, or just chalk it up to my being a sick, bloodthirsty monster. Either way, it's all the same.

I`ve got the Mordhelm and Warhammer 40K boxed set. he Games Workshop site has a crap load of painting tips, rule help etc. If you can find any of their stores near you they`re very helpful to newcomers. Work is of two kinds: first, altering the position of matter at or near the earth's surface relatively to other such matter; second, telling other people to do so.

I'm not much into miniature wargaming but the Warhammer FRP was pretty kick ass, had a Dwarven Tunnel Fighter with an 18% Ballistic (thats crossbows) and took out the main bad guy with one hit. Great critical hit system, took his foot clean off at the ankle and he bled to death! I am the Fallen, he from whom passion is a castaway. I stand here forgotten, despised. I am ...

if you want to get into this game you better either have a lot of money or be good at stealing pieces....tanks can easily fit down ones pants when taken out of the box this game is extremely expensive!!! at about 10 bucks a piece for good guys you get the point.

I've played WFRP, Warhammer 40k, and Warhammer Fantasy Battles. Personally...40k and Fantasy battles are a great way to blow a weekend, but they can be damn expensive if you want the battle to look cool (all dem miniatures). WFRP can be fun, but it has alot of limitations when it comes to character advancement and your best bet is to play with an experience GM. Dogs fucked the pope...no fault of mine...

*nod* the FRP version you don't need pieces...like any role playing game that is character driven. As for the table-top versions, you can always get cardboard counters, but it's just not as cool. Dogs fucked the pope...no fault of mine...

I've played 40k for 7 years now and in that time i've built up two large armies:
Imperial Guard who are like the modern army
And Space Marines a bunch of super warriors
If you have the money do it otherwise it ain't a good idea.
But if you enjoy painting and wargaming then i recommend it.

I've been playing Warhammer 40k for a little while. My friend let me try his Chaos Space Marines, but I decided to build a Necron army after flipping through their codex. their ability to ''self-repair'' (on a roll of 3+ they come back to life w/ 1 wound remaining) and a standard armor save of 3+ makes them extremely resiliant. their gauss weapons can kill any model (not including vehicles) with a to-wound roll of 6, regardless of toughness. They really are easy to paint too, but I still need a lot moe experience before i try to paint a C'Tan. Not too expensive point-wise, so I think i've found my favorite army. All i need to do is make some terrain, but that IS a bitch to do...
i wish i knew more people around here that played warhammer and warhammer 40k. the only place i know of other than a few friends' homes is 30 miles away at a games workshop store. what's a nerd gotta do? Wise man say: Forgiveness is divine, but never pay full price for late pizza.

I had plans of playing it, because there are some people here I know who do, but decided against it for now. I just don't have the money to do it... Nice game though, I played it a bit with my friend's army.

no? usually that's what gets someone to make an army. i know some of the retail stores for warhammer merchandise have open gaming tables, but those guys know their stuff. other than that, don't bother. Wise man say: Forgiveness is divine, but never pay full price for late pizza.

Actually, the game is multiple things : Gaming and painting of course, but if you want to you can also convert your own models, making them unique, and making terrain. I love every part of the game, but it`s really expensive ( like others already mentioned ) And the death of dreams shall be a beautiful end
