Video Game Addiction: A New Diagnosis?
EntertainmentDiscuss Video Game Addiction: A New Diagnosis? in the Discussions forums; Medicinal cocaine, too....
I have to agree with Billy. Video games are addictive because they are fun. If people give up their jobs to play games, its because those people are weak and dont have the willpower to prioritize their time properly.
What about people who skip work to go to the beach? Does that mean the sun is addictive? Are movies addictive? What about watching sports? Why is it such a surprise that people would rather do something fun than something that is boring?
i wonder if they can prescribe medicinal weed for it...
I would just get stoned and than play.

one day every now and then for getting away from work is different than actually losing it from never showing up cause your playing an MMO for 2 months straight.
Actually, wasn't there a thread back when that was about that Korean guy who died from no sleep at an Internet café? All because of a game.
as with everything, there are people who excess. eating, drinking, drugs, etc. Hell, i know people that start to lose it if they can't check their My Space page every couple of hours! Thats just as bad, or worse.

ultimate agreement.
skipping off work to spend a day with your partner is usually described as being in love or being spontaneously romantic or something.
couldn't that also be called an addiction? you're still bummin off work for somethin you like doing. (no pun intended)
if you think about it, love is just as much an addiction as anything else. are they gonna prescribe drugs for that too?
people do things in their spare time that are fun and they like doing (usually) they're called hobbies.
when you end up giving up work for something that's your hobby, its because you're not getting enough satisfaction from work, because you've won the lotto, or because you're a weak minded douchebag. once i discovered i was just bumming off college to do stuff with my gf, i realised that the college just wasn't performing for me and i wasn't getting what i wanted from it, i wasn't enjoying it enough to merit staying. i needed to find somethin i liked enough to stay at it.
the trick is, balancing your job and your free time. if you're workin a job that you enjoy enough to stick to it and then come home to your hobby, you're doin right. if you're bummin off work to do whatever else you enjoy, it's because you're not in the right job for you.
(either that or your life just sucks so fuckin much that your character in WoW is someone you aspire to be and wish you were instead. which is just fuckin sad.)
just need to get off your ass and find that job. else you're gonna end up in a cardboard box in the fuckin street, being 10 times more the douchebag that you are if you skipped work to play games all day.
sure i'd love to bum around playin games all the time. but if i didn't work, how the fuck would i afford to pay for my bills? let alone be able to buy food, drink etc.
even though... i've said it before and i'll say it again... (usually in retort to people who bitch about the gaming nights my friends and i have)
i'd rather be addicted to computer games than crack.
Just get a job where you can play games at work.
It's all I seem to do here. The internet is boring, so out comes the ps2 or psp.
Every now and then I get to send a truck out, but mostly I get paid to drink, smoke and play games.
