The State of the Gaming Industry
Games ForumDiscuss The State of the Gaming Industry in the Debate and Discussion forums; Hi! Yeah.. it's been a while... I've been busy :p
Soooooo let's get on with this shall we?
As it stands the stagnant pool of people who ...
As it stands the stagnant pool of people who are constructing the lackluster video games that cost well over more then what they should ($50 for a five hour game?) have proven time and time again that what I have just said is correct. While the value of the game is great (Nice graphics :p) the overall game itself is quite boring, and at times repetitive.
This shall continue to occur due to the fact that they do not welcome outsiders with wide-spread arms. Instead they, time and again, will ignore and even scoff at the thought of listening to someone who has had no experience whatsoever with making a game. They will, though, spend their time working with people who thought up games like Final Fantasy 8 (Almost everyone who's played it says it sucks ass :p).
Why they do this is anyone's guess.. perhaps they think that the people who once were great will remain so. although that is quickly changing due to the always evolving way that people thin, as well as the varying platforms.
And this varying platforms thing brings me to another thought I have had. What about the fact that some games will be on one type of platform, while on another they do not exist due to the license crapola that keeps being put forth by our wonderfully retarded companies who produce the games.
ho hum...

a lot of the games you're talking about are more directed to a younger audience. graphics matter more to little kids than the actual gameplay, like you said, about FF8
Child 1: ''Hey, what are you playing?''
Child 2: ''I think it's called FF8.''
Child 1: ''What's it about?''
Child 2: ''Who cares, it looks cool!''
Child 1: ''Yeah! Cool!''
where as for older people...
Dude 1: ''Hey, is that FF8? Why are you playing that? I heard the gameplay is really bad.''
Dude 2: ''I heard that too, but I had to see for myself.''
Dude 1: ''So.....how is it?''
Dude 2: ''Well, there's not much action, the dialogue is nothing to be proud about, the whole storyline doesn't have anything to do with the storyline 10 minutes ago, so I think I should stick to pong.''
Dude 1: ''Dude...''

Welcome back..... The gaming industry wants to go more mainstream and its achieving it now. So it produces games on formulas that are proven to work since it sells.....But everyone once in awhile theres an innovative game....So all is not bad

I like the little thingies.. anywho...
Actually FF8 is oriented toward the more teen/adult area then for completely younger children, due mainly to the seriousness of it all and whatnot...that means people above 18 should enjoy it too.. which they don't *except for those darn reviewers who seem to be getting paid to say what they say*

heh, well a lot of characters set to be in their 20's act as though their pre-teen drama queens. i don't really see too much mature themes in there to really give it a age range

Matter, do you agree with me that they are becoming stagnant though, and they should soon start to gather assistance from people that have had zero to do with the gaming industry up to that point?

Comsumers should vote with their wallets about how they want the industry to progress but the problem is like in democracy:bad, uninformed choices.
Gaming ideas from outside the industry may make some original games but how many people will buy into it over the next Tomb Raider?
Work is of two kinds: first, altering the position of matter at or near the earth's surface relatively to other such matter; second, telling other people to do so.
the gaming business is just follow the way the music industry founded. We have this cool thing that earned use a lot of money lets
CLONE and CLONE and
CLONE and CLONE and
CLONE and CLONE and
CLONE and CLONE and
CLONE and CLONE and

Vomit up all ideals and serve
sleep and wake, and serve
Don't think just wake and serve
actually tho, i read lots of games mags each month and the developers they intreview are always eager to talk about their new revolutionairy gameplay or graphics feature.
i think developers like pete molyneux(or however you spell it) and
the guy that made deus ex are always trying to push the envelope for realism and ai and gameplay etc.. we might be heading for a new era in games..
IMHO.
