The best zipfile emulator for super nintendo around is definitely SNES9X, a prodigy in my eyes. Capable of 48 KHz sound and a 640ms buffer length, it's perfect for a gateway or a dell, and I haven't had one problem with it yet, in fact, I'm still finding new features, it automatically comes with a game genie, and full stretch screen. I have 12 different versions of Pac-man, and right now I'm learning how to patch games, I made a Final Fantasy 3 where the last boss looks like a Ninja Turtle, and all the nagas are topless! I want to redo the storyline and gameplay, and maybe even the sound. But back on the subject, I'll go get the link to the file now.

i use snes9x.... but one day i was messing around...and i totally messed up my sound....and i cant put it back....doesnt matter...i always have Winamp in the background....

I kinda like Snes9x better than ZSNES, myself. But both are good. I usually find that if one of the two emulators doesn't like a game as much, the other often runs it a bit better.

Who'd have thought, though? Back when I used to play these consoles when they were in their prime, I never even imagined that I'd be able to download these things for free. Hell, back then the whole concept of the internet was unknown to me though. We've definately come quite a bit of ways these past 9 or so years.

How big a file is the emulator, and how large are the games on average?

The roms can run anywhere from 20kb to 4000kb, but they're zip files relatively so they won't take up computer space unless they're opened. I am not sure about the actual system, but version 1.39 is pretty lightweight compared to some of the others, if it makes any problems you can always uninstall it anyways.

Eh, compared to the HD space on computers now, I doubt the roms size should be much of an issue.

Hell if you think the SNES rom sizes are laughable, take a look at the size of Atari roms. They're something like 2 or 3kb. I got a zip file of 500 atari roms, and unzipped in my atari folder the thing is only alittle over 1meg. 1meg for 500 games.

Sweet, I wanted to know so that I can save it onto the roaming profile that the university's network has, they only give you 20mb so I don't want it to be too large, but it sounds like it will be alright. Can you get ChronoTrigger? Its been so long since I have played it on the snes and I want to play it again. What about FF6, Secret of Mana, Secret of Evermore?

Oh yeah, you can also use the frame skip to make the game run unreasonably fast, I can now beat MK1 in a matter of minutes....

I use ZSNES...I like it a lot, its better than anything else I've ever used.

Then for Sega, I use KGEN98.

I find that rpg site lacking, but since every site I used to use has been taken down, it's not so bad.

Anyone else have XP and have trouble running MEKA? It just craps out on me after playing for a few minutes and takes my entire system with it.

I have XP and I cant run any NES emulator for some reason...It's a curse...

Anybody know where I could get the rom gal panic. Any emulator will be good, just tell me what it is, where to download, etc
