RPG: 'The Birth of Religon' - 11-28-01

This is the deal…

Humanity evolved without God. Bloody wars were fought, won and lost, but humanity survived them all. Imagine a society that looks like the Vulcan's of TOS. There are certain ceremonies (eg. Wedding, Engagement, Baptism (a non reglious ceremony), and others, but they all were born out of a need to celebrate events.

The setting, Earth. Technology has reached the same level as it has now. We can drive cars, use computers to communicate with others around the globe. But God does not exist. There is no religion.

On this earth there are different countries, all with their weaknesses and advantages. The diplomatic problems are like today.

OK the story begins exactly one day after the population of this planet learned that the concept of God exists, a higher form of life, that had a hand in creating the world we live on and maybe even the entire universe. A being so great we cannot fully comprehend it.

It was touted by some scientists that were looking for a way to explain a hole in there universal formula. (A formula that tried to exlpain the universe)

The rules

-Pick a country and/or one single character, to be your main character.

-As a country you can decide how your government stands or falls or how it deals with a population that have just realized there is something more out there. Will this mean anarchy, war or peace.

-As a character, you can decide and play with the sociological impact it has on individuals and the whole. How does it affect your average Joe Schmoe?

-You may not write how another country responds or acts, nor may you hint at the history of another country, unless noone has clamed that country.

-You may write how the World Wide Crime Syndicate acts. If you need to blame something evil, like a bombing on anybody blame it on the WWCS. The WWCS is a NPC and I will write about them when you are not blaming them for something.

-I will also write the free media as well as the media in my country, but you may write the national and other media in your country (if you are a government type that doesn't have free speech and freedom of the press.). The way this will work is I {and you} will write interludes in gold that are different shows expressing views on the current events. You may use real shows.

-You may only take a country as large as the USSR was, but no larger. Although you may chose a smaller nation (Preferred).

-The date is 1/01/01 NA (New Age) and we will be using Greenwich Mean Time for ease of use. The currency is an equivalent to the dollar called the Simolean (§) [That's Alt+0167]

The years labeled to us BC are relabled OR [Old Reckoning]
and the years labled AD are relabled NR [New Reckoning].
We stsrt at the date Janary 1st 2000 by our way of keeping track

Here is a link tohelp with nation building, Nation Statistics.

We will not use OoB's in this debate.

Note: Any religon strongilly based off a earler religon (Eg.mAhristanity, Islam) cannot be used because there was NO religon before this announcment.

My stats and history will come in the next post.

May you find beauty in evertything you see.

Japan or Nippon
Background: While retaining its time-honored culture, Japan rapidly absorbed Western technology during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. After its devastating defeat in World War II, Japan recovered to become the second most powerful economy in the world and a staunch ally of the US. While the emperor retains his throne as a symbol of national unity, actual power rests in networks of powerful politicians, bureaucrats, and business executives. The economy experienced a major slowdown in the 1990s following three decades of unprecedented growth.

Economy - overview: Government-industry cooperation, a strong work ethic, mastery of high technology, and a comparatively small defense allocation (1% of GDP) have helped Japan advance with extraordinary rapidity to the rank of second most technologically powerful economy in the world after the US and third largest economy in the world after the US and China. One notable characteristic of the economy is the working together of manufacturers, suppliers, and distributors in closely-knit groups called keiretsu. A second basic feature has been the guarantee of lifetime employment for a substantial portion of the urban labor force. Both features are now eroding. Industry, the most important sector of the economy, is heavily dependent on imported raw materials and fuels. The much smaller agricultural sector is highly subsidized and protected, with crop yields among the highest in the world. Usually self-sufficient in rice, Japan must import about 50% of its requirements of other grain and fodder crops. Japan maintains one of the world's largest fishing fleets and accounts for nearly 15% of the global catch. For three decades overall real economic growth had been spectacular: a 10% average in the 1960s, a 5% average in the 1970s, and a 4% average in the 1980s. Growth slowed markedly in the 1990s largely because of the aftereffects of overinvestment during the late 1980s and contractionary domestic policies intended to wring speculative excesses from the stock and real estate markets. Government efforts to revive economic growth have met little success and were further hampered in late 2000 by the slowing of the US and Asian economies. The crowding of habitable land area and the aging of the population are two major long-run problems. Robotics constitutes a key long-term economic strength, with Japan possessing 410,000 of the world's 720,000 "working robots".
