Thinking about getting one of the two... but Id like to hear some thoughts about which I should get.

We have both. Mainly, we got Guitar Hero for the extra guitar since Rock Band does not come with a bass guitar.

Rock Band is completely fun and everybody who comes to our house ends up playing it with us and having a blast. Everybody wants to play so we switch around instruments to give everyone a chance at NOT playing the drums (the most difficult by far especially after a few glasses of wine).

With GH, all you can do is watch one person playing the game. With Rock Band, you can have one to three friends join in which is WAY fun.

I heard that singleplayer on rockband isnt as good as single player on GH3, but that the multiplayer makes up for it.... true?

i am in the same boat man. I have been thinking of getting one or the other, but the main thing stopping me from buying Rock Band is the space I might need for all the instruments. The only thing I like better about musically about Rock Band over Guitar Hero is that Rock Band uses more songs from the actual bands, not covers. I wonder what one will have more songs in the end though

Does GH3 have downloadable songs?

they both do, but i think you have to pay for them

I like what ive read about the gameplay of Rock Band alot more than the gameplay of GH - I just dont know how often I would use the drums & mic.

gh3 has a decent amount of free downloadable songs as well, i've not paid for any so far.

we don't have rock band here yet, but my friend and i are going to go halves on it so we can play together at my pad.

i'd ideally like to have a go on it first, to see how it goes.

lol, just get your family or friends involved man...i think having a few people over to play would be good, and i agree i like rock band a little more then guitar hero 3, but it should still be good

I played rock band a few weeks ago with my buddy - its alot of fun.

I was totally against it until I tried it - basically I wrote it off as DDR with guitars. well it is. and its fun. dammit. once again proving not to knock it til youve tried it.

Guitar Hero - better songs, better single player

Rock Band - Way better multiplayer, more fun instruments

has anybody got a mic stand and tried to play guitars/sing?

I stuck the mic in my shirt pocket and tried to go all don henley on the drums, got 3 stars on both on Don't Fear the Reaper... because im a pimp. With a proper stand i think i could have done much better

I think the better songs is a matter of taste man. I liked more songs for Rock Band then I did for Guitar Hero 3...Maybe i'll take your advice and look into getting them both if I am able to find a place for all the instruments in my apartment with everything else

i don't think i would do well with a mic and Rock Band since I am a death metal vocalist, though it might be interesting to see how well it picked everything up. Maybe it's one of those games that you just need to make noise at the proper times to get a grade

If anyone could post the song lists up for gh3 and rock band that'd be legend.

You can use the guitar from GH3 with Rock Band, but not the other way around. The RB guitar is bigger and much nicer... it also has two places on the neck that you can play, GH guitar has one.

The graphics on Rock Band are much better, IMO. The play with one guitar only is pretty comparable on both games. I like Rock Band's songs better, too.

Both games were originally made by the same people; I think they perfected things by the time they came out with Rock Band.

It wont pick up at all, you'll fail horribly. The game measures your pitch, rhythym really doesnt matter much. I downloaded some metallica songs and attempted to sing them with a hetfield-style gravelly voice and i failed them, alternately i can get 100% on most songs by just humming the correct notes falsetto.

You can't scream or growl, but if you actually try singing for real its pretty fun.

I'd like to try RB, played GH, but it's not on my list of things to own, but SwampWitch sure does make RB sound really good.
