I was just wondering which one you guys preferred, well personally I prefer Real Time because it involves speed of the player and quick decision making. While Turn Based literally allows the enemy to have hours on creating tactics. And Attacks are limited to rounds instead of a fluid battle in a Real Time strategy game.

I want a game which allows for some truly entertaining combat situations which are in real time... so far however I prefer turn based since it allows me to play a chess like style of game.. though, sadly, very few games allow for that.

I prefer strategy games to be turn-based. In most real-time games it often comes to which player has a better reaction, quicker reflexes, etc. I leave that for action games. I like it more when a strategy game gives you time to think and make a right decision. I hate it when I need to rush to do something as well. When I am playing a game I want to have fun and calm down first of all and don't like to have a timelimit hanging on me. Turn-based games are also usually much more complex and have much more tactical variations on how to win, and most real-time strategies are limited to either "rush for the kill in the very beginning" or "accumulate a big army and swarm your opponent" tactics...

I think so, too..

I prefer to turn-based game.. real time games like war 3, diablo, some of them are pretty hard to me.. but sometimes turn-based game is boring..

I kinda agree with SNB the only reason I don't really like Turn-based game is just it can become really boring, otherwise it's fine sure there are other reasons but the primary reason is that it could just be plain boring and frustrating.

well, i suppose it depends on what kind of player you are. i prefer real time games, and sadly what Morphling has said is true; there aren't many choices to do in real time other than strategic warfare. i'm hoping there's something more for it down the road.

the idea of it just appeals to me though, all about how quick you can think under pressure in limited time. it's more real to me. while turn-based games let you plan carefully what to do next, which eventually anyone can accomplish, real time tests your nerve and reactions to how you can think up devious plans when the enemy is already attacking.

against computers it's lame, but multiplayer is where RTS really do shine. For example, it's totally awesome to wipe out your best friend's Britons when you flank them at their base and wall them in with towers and archers while they still haven't even collected enough resources to feed an army yet.

again, it's all the kind of player you are. that's just me.

RTS = Tactical
TBS = Strategic

those are two differnent styles of combat... one is situational and immediate, the other is grandiouse and forward thinking... the main flaw i see lies in RTS games... because the AI of your people is very limited, it forces you to pretty much control every charachter and assign every target... the only way i can see this working would be if you actually had a command heirarchy with other people. say, break up your command into platoons or whatnot under one human's control with other human's above them coordinating and setting targets... thats how the millitary works. generals give the orders, lieutenants carry them out.

Well that's how I play Warcraft III with my friends, most of the time we take different roles like sometimes I'm the only who's scouting while the rest are building their base or my friend are creating units while I'm facing the enemy in mortal combat... I guess that's another reason why I really like RTS team battles

Turn based..... hell even in real life our military has weeks sometimes months to plan for something instead of a few seconds..... it provides far more fun.... RTS is fairly simple in its planning... who so ever can build the fastest and coordinate the fastest wins.... and I hate when you command something to do something and you come back to find it wandering around aimlessly... bleh.....

Not neccesarily I mean there are techniques that could be used such as starving the enemy from any resources, or sending decoys and quickly flanking the enemy I mean some of this could not be done is a turn based game... but of course I could be wrong and this is just a comment

In Star Ocean: The Second Story, you are allowed to choose between real time, half-real time or something, and totally turn based.

I have only played the real time style of fights... but this is a neat little thing I want to see in more games. One of the main problems is that you'd probably like a game more if it was real time, yet you are forced to play turn based, and vice versa.

Oh yeah just for the record: I still enjoy playing Turn based strategy games and I'm not saying that RTS is better, but I am saying that I prefer RTS.

I prefer turn based just as much as real time...

Real time allows for more speed, and hence a better ability to deal with new situations arising.

Turn based allows for those who don't have a faster way of thinking to be able to do good.

Either of these categories is great for multiplayer, and the same thing applies for single player. *Smacks everyone around*

Turn based since I like to think things through.Although if a game like Ring Of Red can combine both turn based and real time systems well enough not to harm either then thats fine too.
