Since my previous thread about consoles have grown for some strange reason in a discussion of Magic: The Gathering card game, I think it's just the right time to make a new thread dedicated to it.
So, if you have any thoughts about this game, you're most welcome to post here. This may be anything, be it discussion of some strategies, cards, cardart, game mechanics, or some other ideas on the game.
Hmm, does anybody play Apprentice? It's a program designed for playing MTG on PC using network. Good for testing decks or just for having some fun. I'm currently looking for somebody to play with.

Hmm, I'm playing for a bit more then 2 years now and think of playing it further for quite long. I'm not much of a casual player anymore though - it certainly gets boring with time. I much more like playing MTG in tournaments. It's just so much more interesting, more chalenging IMHO, and it's constantly changes, what makes the game interesting for a long time. I had quite a lot of success in local tournament play, but I'm quite sure that I will be a total scrub if I'll suddenly will have to play it on the world-wide scale. Had not a lot of chances to get out on some bigger tournaments, though I played in two Grand Prix: in Prague and in Warsaw (finishing somewhere in the middle both times ). Have a hope of attending Grand Prix in Hamburg in September, but most likely won't have enough money to travel. What we lacked before here is good teams for testing. It's much better here now and I think our players will be much better prepared this time
Have quite a big collection too allready. Mostly tournament level cards... Keep them in good condition, use sleeves, just in case I will have to sell them later. Not going to be soon though...

Dyshade, if they're crap and you didn't really mean to sell them, then I'll buy some anyway...I don't really care about condition, I just need to inflate my collection. And even a crappy looking Serra Angel is still a Serra Angel for example...I'll buy if you don't want them. Not all, but some.
I've played only since between Oddyssey and Torment....but I've gotten pretty good for just that long. I actually started with 7th edition and Apocalypse cards. I have a lot of fun just thinking up combos that'd work well and stuff...but I don't have enough cards to make them work always.
Favorite cards? Llanowar Elves, Spiritmonger, Armidillo Cloak, Phantom Nantuko, Dueling Grounds, and Phantom Centaur.... Hey, bread is a good time for me...a-woodle-oo-doo, singing bread is a good time for EVERYbody...

I was just trying to get some cards for 5-color and Type 1 decks, but getting them here is impossible, since they started selling MTG here since Nemesis.

Favourite cards... so many... well, just to name a few of them:
Morphling ( ), Survival of the Fittest (too bad they banned it in Extended), Pernicious Deed, Gaea's Blessing, Genesis, Tropical Island (because I like the UG color combination in general), Lightning Angel (just a beautiful card), Flametongue Kavu, Cursed Scroll, Living Death, Spiritmonger, Recurring Nightmare, Force of Will, Illusions of Grandeur (in combination with Donate ), Intuition, Wild Mongrel, Swords to Plowshares, Fire/Ice... many more...
Hmm, one more question for discussion. What kind of decks do you prefer and why? Beatdown? Control? Combo? Something else?
I like control decks more then anything else. Not like counter-everything kind of decks, but more of a kind that finds the right answer for the right situation or uses some interesting card combinations, like Tradewind-Survival decks in old Extended or like Oath of Druids. I enjoy playing combo decks like Donate Illusions and aggro-control like Miracle Grow and modern UG Madness decks in Type 2 too. Generally I prefer those kind of decks to pure beatdown because they are more interesting to play and they require a lot of skill to operate properly. I do not like 'play a creature-attack-repeat' strategies, because it's too simple and doesn't require that much skill from a player.

It's a very simple program, not too beautiful looking, but a good one. And you have access to all cards. It is only about 1.5 Mb download, plus a patch with all the newest cards (0.5 Mb more). You can get it here: http://www.e-league.com/patches.php 56 k is enough for playing Apprentice.

I've actually been playing alot more since hanging out with my ex girlfriends older brother. One day we were up in his room being bored and I spotted his box and we whipped em out and called his old group over...I play a very good white/blue deck and he plays mostly green and red or if it's just us two, his speed green. I cant beat his speed green becuase it's take alot longer for me to get my heavy hitters out while hes whupping my ass with Growth and Rancor on llanowar elves. But my blue/white kills him no matter what he uses in multiplayer, though a few games have come close. One of my favorite cards is engineered plague. There was a kid who used to play in a group with us alot and he had a sliver..deck...unless he put out a muslce sliver first, most slivers are 1/1 and he lost almost all his attacks. In every set there always been a number of crap cards and a number of good cards. One thing for sure is that now they are much more balanced. No more broken cards that allow you to win on turn one by decking your opponent or something else like that... That was just boring, when games lasted 3-4 turns max. Sligh in Extended can kill on 3rd turn though, but that's a very rare situation. Now games in tournaments last much longer and that makes it more fun.

Actually, in many cases, the older stuff does have the advantage.
And those old school mono-red decks are annoying.
I DESPISE control. I HATE blue. I HATE it. Blue is too overpowered, and control is just too hard to concevibly beat. Something needs to change that. There are decks that could kick blue's ass, but suck otherwise...its so hard to make an all-purpose deck...
But I love green. Hey, bread is a good time for me...a-woodle-oo-doo, singing bread is a good time for EVERYbody...

But I love green. | Well, blue is NOT overpowered, though it sometimes looks like that. It is actually quite a common view to consider blue overpowered, especially among younger players. The problem with this color is that it is probably the most difficult color to operate properly, but if you know how to play it you may do wonders. Another problem with blue is that for others to beat it they must be skilled to do it too. That's is one of the reasons why Pro Tour players prefer playing it.
And some players just hate it when they accumulate resources for their biggest creature, finally tap a lot of mana for it, and a control player taps 2 blue mana and says: "I COUNTER!"
finalw0rd, try playing a blue deck yourself . You will find it to be a completely different experience. I personally enjoy playing blue color because it's much more complicated then just playing creatures and attacking. I know a lot of players who hated blue when they started playing and then after a few years started playing blue and it became their favourite color. I can't say I don't like any of the colors in MTG, but blue is certainly my favourite. And yeah, green, is probably my second favourite color, followed very closely by black.

I used to play a creatureless blue artifact deck..... it was all about denial and 1/1 creatures from artifacts.... even if I did not win i had the satisfaction of watching the other player curse and grumble after countering five or six of thier spells in a row with various cards... lol...
