Well if you take that the 1st videogame ( arcade ) was out in 1971 Computer Space and failed but the 1st successful one was PONG in 1972 ..

1971 then count up till the year you 1st played an arcade game will give you your generation of Gamer

As best as I can tell my year was 1976 = 5 Makeing me a 5th Generation Player ..

Any gamers from the 70's
Should be good at SHOOTERS as This was their age of power ..
so 1-9th Gen gamers should have mastered Fast fingers for rapid fire and good acuracy ..
Weapon of choice : JOYSTICK ,1 or 2 Buttons .

Any Gamers from the 80's
10th-19th GEN should be Masters at Maze,Driving and Run and Jump games( Platform) . Thus better at timeing skills and due to timeing jumps and attacks ..
Weapon of choice :Joystick 1 or 2 buttons. Enter control pads ...

Any Gamers from the 90's
20th - 29th Gen Should be Masters at FIGHTERS,PUZZLE and RPG's .
Thus Better at Useing multiple buttons at once along with joysticks also we see increased problem solving as the game industry starts to become diverse ..
Weapon of choice :Control Pads or joysticks with 2-8 or more buttons .

Any Gamers from the 2000's
Should become masters of many Real Time Stratigy , First Person Perspective Shooters ( 3-D games ) and what ever else this decade spawns ..As PC games become main stream .
Weapon of choice : Keyboard and Mouse or Control pads as joysticks become rare except in arcades ...

SO See where you started out at then think of WHAT kind of games you mastered and it will give you your Generation Skill Base ..

I will bury anyone at PONG ( NEVER BEEN DEFEATED ..yet ) ,have some of the quickest fingers around smoking most opponents at Shooters Im even faster than thoose lame controlers with AUTO.. Most of the Games I am best at came out around the 70's-80's and are Shooters , I will always do good at just about any game of thoose years needed skills ..where as Im only a decent opponent at FIGHTERS ,RTS ,PUZZLERS and dont play SIM anything !!

BUT Cross me in a TWISTED METAL or VIRTUAL ON And ILL kick yer but !! also dam good at Quake,Unreal style games ..but not a GOD at them like younger players or say later GEN gamers who started on these kind of games ..

Having over 30 generations is kinda messy. I`m around Generation 16 or so but fit more into the 90's mold.

Yeah alot of ppl turn out that way or even stop playing for awhile then start again with the later style games ...

I have thought of making the Year / Date groups smaller shuch as 70s,80,90,2k,etc. But i didnt think this did justice as a scale to show possible skills, age of the gamer ,and the Honor /Attitude of the Gamer as the Gaming enviroment keeps on changeing .

In the 70's to the mid 80's Arcades were a place to hang out challenge strangers to duels and EVEN Make Bets for pocket change , Players would watch and even teach other players the tricks of the games they were good at and WELL It was Good for the EGO to be known as the Master or BEST at a particular game in the Arcade and there were some codes of honor out there among players ( Im shure there still is but not as much ) ..Thats right we used to be able to TALK to each other WHILE PLAYING !! OR EVEN have TEAMS to play a single machine for hours in the quest of a HIGH SCORE ..Thoose days are sooo gone ...

While the Late 80's,90's,and now we see awsome Graphics and more complex controls. BUT in alot of places the Arcades ( MOM and POP styled ones went under partaly due to the advancements of the HOME SYSTEMS and PC games And I belive the other major factor to be that times have become MORE VIOLENT cant have drug peddlers in the Arcades and Gang members shooting each other over Street Fighter cheap tactics ..) Tho I have seen on rare occation a player wait until say a player is about to die then jump in and challenge the current player at a fighting game vs just add coin and kill the 1st player off ...
So now the Majority of the Arcades that are left are the Mall rat traps mostly filled with kiddie games and a prize ticket modivation system rather than the quest to be the best not to mention most games wont run for longer than an hour now days due to game endings or TIMERS and diffuculty increase ...It's all comercialized now ...

But hey Laser Tag arenas are still going around and there are a few serious Arcades left so its not over YET ???

Well exceptional skill's in a game format outside your generation is expected in a later Gen's selection ..I havent seen too many players who are awsome at the modern RPG's who can score big in something retro like classic Asteriods , and thats part of what my system kinda shows as well since there are different skill/demands on a player per generation sorta like how many of you out there would trade your PS2 for an Atari 2600 ?
Like am awsome at games like Pole position,Turbo,Hang On,NightDriver,RoadBlaster,and the ol'Gran Prix styled games or even the Twisted Metal and V8 games but can only get 2 or 3 levels into like Crusin World or Gran Torismo due to the different game play needed I cant handle the REAL LIFE Control and What No GUNS ??

i'm pretty high in the FPS catagory and pretty low in the RTS... I can reap people with dig dug, but get my ass handed to me in pole position.

Golden Axe was the first arcade game I ever played.
Whenever that was, I don't know.

However, I'm equally good at everything I play...so eh.

when i was 5-6 i could beat anyone at street fighter and things like that i'd just randomly press buttons and obliterate anyone who came to me. unforstinatly i cant do that anymore. my teachers say i am good at acting so does my mom. hmmm. i do like rp's. maybe i would be a good actor. was born in 90's so i guess i fit that description. at least when i was younger..

Heh this isnt a perfect system or anything just a comparitive scale to show the generations of Gamers and the MOST LIKELY range of Mastered skills as per there era of game play ..So yer saying you wernt around for Dig Dug ??,Rouge..Im not shure but I figured you to be 20th Gen or lower ???

See Rouge you get stomped at Pole Position ..How many DRIVING and RTS games are you good at ? They could be one of your weak points ..Like Im no RTS master the only one Ive ever been good at is Starcraft ..So I consider RTS a weak spot for myself..

As for JP whos claiming master of all trades ..Fess Up boy there are games out there that YOU BLOW AT ! (Ol JP and I always seem to get into it a bit lol ).

Considering I wasn't even born in 1971, let alone in a country that had plentiful arcades (somewhere in the South Pacific), I think I'm somewhere in the 30th generations. I do remember I am proficient at puzzle games, some fighter games, and those damn DDR games (arcade-wise). Because I'm a n00bie fr33k. However, I played my first Nintendo game around the age of 7. I think it was Pac-Man or Bomberman, or something.

And the logic is indeed flawed. I'm an 80s gamer in many ways, since I'm a platform master, but I'm also a FPS master and I seldom lose at fighting games. So yeah, how do I do the math here?

Ok well looky .. I decided to call each year a generation due to how fast the games avalible and type of games out here change These are GAME GENERATIONS divided by actual years so it would be easy to understand and calculate ,( Not to mention IT SHOWS HOW MANY YEARS YOU"VE BEEN PLAYING ) I mean the only other logic I thought to use was via ERA divided by Systems but the arcade messes this up and so does the fact that since the 80's multiple systems started coming out at the same time I cant use BITs due to game systems as this fails too as during the 8 and 16 bit era stronger systems came out at the same time that 16 bit was the rage and who wants to be X32 ? if they have NEVER even seen one ? and how many of us have played the Neo geo home system? Oh then what about the Hand helds ??

So since My Concept seems to be so wack ANY IDEAS out THERE ?

Actually, the first computer games were word /info games..
In the mid/late 70's, there were walkthrough games abound on mainframe systems.
and there were others as well... My fave being star trek!

Anyways a great example of this system was just last week some friends of mine challenged ME to games of Pong and Frogger ..since they both seem so good the figured they could wup me ..Gotta admit the NEW PONG and FROGGER took me a little time to adjust to the sad 3-D ish graphics but after that they got smoked ! An like I told them you cant challenge ME to a game that came out in the OLD DAYS LOL !
