| Games that made you very scared... -
09-28-02
I'm just wondering have you ever played a game that made you scared, got your heart racing and made you scream like a little girl?
~I myself have been scared shitless by two games.
Alien Vs Predator and Aliens Vs PRedator 2
Playing the colonial merine and the mercanry is a very scary experience and gaives you a fright when all you here is beep...beep...beep...beep then an alien bursts out and attempts to rip your head off.
Am I the only person out there to be scared when playing games alone in the dark with only the sound beep...beep...beep...beep

The Silent Hill games.
They ARE horror, none of this gore-fest stuff (there is gore in it obviously, but the concentration is on the horror) Thanks. Find out exactly what to think, next.

Barbie Adventures
It is scary for so many reasons.
For me its the deeper psychological damage it is doing to the worlds population of young girls in western society, forcing them to believe they have live up to the standards of Barbie and her gravity defying breasts. Combine with this, that being pretty and marrying a cute rich boyfriend so that you can go on stupid adventures with your rich bitch friends is all that is important in life. Really, playing with Barbie in general for me is a scary game, why has there never been an "Ebola Victim Barbie", why? To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. I have played Resident Evil 2, 3, and Silent Hill 2.
I have played the demo for Alone in the Dark.
None of those were scary... idiotic.. annoying.. repetitive, yes, but far from scary.
The sad thing is that people find Silent Hill 2 to be a great horror game... though in the end it has such a confusing and moronic storyline, and the actual game itself looks grainy as all hell, plus there is no real fear at all (Come on.. you use a wooden plank to beat the hell out of the first monster you see... not very scary)....
Most "Horror" games nowadays rely on surprising people, which isn't actual horror.. since true horror will leave behind a residual amount of fear, wherein you will remain constantly afraid even after you have stopped playing. More often then not people play games like Resident Evil, Aliens vs Predator, and have things pop out at them, go yip, and then relax... as I have. (\ /)

Looking Glass Technologies made more then one game that scared me. Part of the reason for that is an excellent sound in their games.
Thief: The Dark Project, Thief 2: The Metal Age
In this games you are playing as a thief in a dark fantasy world where technology started to appear (like steam engines and simple mechaninal devices). The game is about the conflict between nature and technology, in which you become involved. The game is quite different from usual action games in the way you have to handle the problems. Open battle almost always means a lot of trouble or death. Using shadows, sneaking around, hiding is a must. There are several levels with undead and some monsters, and those really made me scared at times... especially when they sneak on you themselves and make scary sounds...
System Shock, System Shock 2
In these games you are trying to survive being stuck on the space ship controlled by a mad AI. You are the last one man standing and on your way stumble on the remains of other crew members, their logs describing what is happening. You are being constantly hunted by security systems, zombies and mutants, you are always low on ammo and resources and you get a feeling of being alone in that hole. This all creates a lot of pressure on the player and instills fear. Ack... after playing the SS2 for a few nights, I am now always trying to reach for my shotgun whenever I hear a monkey scream... | |

I actually believe that they need to create an Aliens video game wherein they take the style of that trust thing, alter it to a fear thing, so that the more afraid a soldier gets the more trigger happy and less controllable he becomes, while also having a very dark, yet bright, clear environment wherein you are trying to deal with Aliens invading your base, and you're also trying to find their nest so you can unleash screaming temporal doom on their dirty giant queen. SH still feaks me out whenever i think deeply about it. thats why i come back every few months to start over... ___Nick_the_Rogue___ To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

The storyline made no sense.
You go deep into a damn hole.. deep! FAR FAR INTO IT!
And wind up in a prison?
And then you wind up at a dock of some sort?
And then you spend like fifteen minutes just rowing the boat..
Oh... how about that you kill monsters by stepping on them! boy oh boy is that scary... and the fact that you can't see anything actually relieves me, since I'd be bored with seeing how crappy everything looks. The way that the town is decimated, as though earthquakes have run amok, is also annoying, the weapons save for the pistol and shotgun are unnecessary, how people die and come back to life is also annoying, and the fact that it winds up being that all of this is real is even more annoying.
