don't munchkin the dude, he's just starting out... a rogue needs dexterity and charisma everything else is out of character tweaking to avoid stuff the DM throws at you.

Dex is primary, Int, Wis, and Cha are all important, as they modify the other main rogue skills, and Int gives you more skill points to start with, so the higher the better.
Stay mobile, think on your feet, and never steal anything from the party unless you can pin it on someone else. As soon as something turns up missing you're the first person the fingers will point at.
