It is indicated specifically that the technology is to prevent the use of used as well as pirated software
The technology involves actually rendering a authentication code originally encrypted on the game disk unreadable to other machines once the disk it is used
This would mean that Net-based and other such games will not be the only ones to be affected by the technology
Naturally third software developers would embrace this technology, and it would ensure sales of the inevitable "Best series" for the PS3, but used games shops would be put out of business if the PS3 were to become the primary platform in the next generation
While information regarding the patent does not specify outright that the technology will be used in the PS3, Kutaragi has gone on record saying that copy management is absolutely necessary in order to endure that no "Napsters" of the game industry create problems in the future "

I agree. Of course though, how could I not? Stupid stuff like this just ruins everybody's lives. Pretty soon people will be robbing PSP's instead of cash at walmart or target or whatever just to manage having a bit of fun? It used to be about the cash. Used to.

doesnd the PS3 needs some sort of blu ray burner so it can scramble the code on game disks? even upping the price of that thing even further...
though i hardly believe sony would be that stupid. most of my games are used games because new ones are so goddamn exspensive. 67 euro for a new game. no fucking way i do that if i can get is for 30 if i wait a few months for a used one. and most people i know do this because they all think games are too fucking expensive these days.
if sony does implant this bullshit i know i'm buying an X-Box 360.
apprently the fact it has blu ray makes it even more stupidly expensive because it needs two lasers to read the disc. expect loading times to go up and up and up.
i dont want and wont get a ps3. even though the xbox 360 may not be the best, i like it, i like the system i think its great, i like the games, and i can't wait for it.

I agree with FD, at least the old Xbox's could take a little abuse, I went through 2 PS2's as well, and though they seem to have more titles, and better titles, the Xbox seems to be worth it for the fact that I only have to buy one of them.
It would be hacked, trust me. They've tried this with VHS's, DVD's, CD's, and every other format of media to come out. I'd give it three months tops before I could find somewhere to get it mod'd.
Also, I doubt that they'd do this. Game Stores and the likes of Blockbuster bring in a good amount of money for the companies. They would stand to lose too much to nix renting.
And this report doesn't seem whole to me. Where did it come from?

yeah, ima gamer through and through... i buy used/new. i rent. i borrow from friends. anyway i can get some gaming in is applied. therefore, i know i'm gonna own a ps3 and a 360 at some point. yeah i've been through two ps2s, i have an xbox, and a gamecube and i still want more. i just havent bought into the portable gaming devices... never even owned gameboy.
