Dy, have you ever considered starting up a D&D group here?

Run a thread with some regulars, build the characters and try to run the tread like a MUDD?

I haven't played D&D since 2nd edition and didn't like the rule changes for it or for 3rd but I'd be willing to give it a go.

I started out with the AD&D. I was the DM for a real small group back in Texas. After I graduated high school, I got into Vampire: The Masquerade pretty heavy, and Storytold a long ass campaign for a little larger group. Went to a couple of V:tM LARPs. That's some funny shit.
Since I moved here, I haven't really played. I thought about writing a novel from my campaigns and sending them to White Wolf, but I got 40 pages into it and kind of lost my drive. I really need to get back on that...

Anyway, I always wanted to have some kind of crazy super-hero musician role playing game. Where you could pick what genre of music you played and it gave you different attributes and abilities, and your instrument of choice did weapon damage to the hordes of Satanic and undead armies that threaten the world.

It just seems like fun.

It wasn't so much the talking that did it for me, it was the way he described how the eyes would slide back and forth, as if it were looking around the room.

I don't think I could do long-distance gaming. Something about letting someone else roll your dice for you just feels wrong.

you could always roll your own dice and the people on the other end would have to fully take your word for it. In that regards it is hard to cheat what your rolling since well you could say you rolled about 15 on a 20 die so many times they would start to think you were cheating. Now that being said, I had a buddy that I used to play D&D with that had an amazing ability to roll dice no matter if they were his or yours. When I first played with him, I though he had loaded dice so I asked him to use mine instead of his. He put his dice away took mine out of the bag and then started to roll them just the same way he rolled his own. We stopped the game for a short period and all of us that were playing tried to copy what he was doing and none of use could do it. It was just really weird to watch a guy taking 2 10 sided dice and starting rolling about 80 9 out of 10 times. After that we started to play again...just tried what we could do it keep up with him...either way, he was one of the best DM's we ever played with and well had one of the most original stories I ever came across...

I did try to start up one once but did not have the time to follow through. If and when I have more time I could always try again. Doing something along those lines would involve strict rules

I'm in. What type of rules are we discussing? What game, when and how many players?

I started out with just mazes and a D6 ! Then was introduced to D&D then AD&D, I still build on a gaming world that I started when I was 13 .So the D&D style games are my base and saddly I just dont make the time to play anymore ,dam it's almost been a year !

Over the years Ive played :
Star frontiers including Alpa Dawn and I think it was called Night Hawks the all starship combat system for that game had alot of fun with it and of coursed mixed it in with D&D!

Twighlight 2000 : A war game based after WWIII ,played it in High School in two groups of about 6 with 2 game masters and a set of walkie talkies so the two teams could try and back each other up on different missions ...Great stuff esp when our DMs tricked us into attacking each other ..Frendily fire sucks ! LOL ..

Paranoia!!!! OMG this is a must play for any gamer ! Lets just say playing stupid is the bomb ! "Stay Alert! Trust No One! Keep Your Laser Handy!"

TMNT of course !! didnt play it too much but it was fun !

MARVEL SUPER HEROS !! is the other staple in my gameing world WE ate this game like candy and lost teeth ! I have almost every book for this game and I gotta tell ya if you throw out 80% of the rules and modifi them you have one of the BEST combat systems EVER ! hell my best friend and Self used to have weekly battles of custom built teams then a yearly contest of every character living or dead to see who would be that years biggest bad ass !
Im still hooked on its 2 D10 system tho ive changed it a bit !

Only got to play TOON once back in 89 not bad .
Then theres just about all the white wolf crap ..Vampire,Wherewolf ,almost played Demon but I think their best game has to be Hunters!! and yeah vampire larps are fun !

Self has also played Call of Cathulu the only game that to date I have burned my character sheet after the game was over ..lets just say it was a most dissturbing game ..so I guess the story teller rocked!

Palladium....: TMNT ,Robotect,Nightbane,Rifts... Hell theres a bunch of systems Ive played that I dont even remember the names of ..a something dawn,another cool superhero bame a buch of home brew systems even some 1950's X-file area 51 based game ..

Then Assassin in High school with dart guns was a BLAST !! we had it shcool sanctioned playable only durring lunch and anywhere on campus was cool ..heheh I belive I was the first person out ! my assassin cheated and left the art class we were both in to goto his locker and get his gun so I was trapped in class when the luch bell rung with no weapon ..but I still had alot of fun trying to keep all of us NERDS alive durring the week it took to get it down to 2 players ..it was rad ! Course cant do that in schools nowdays !!

Anyways I run a basterd mix of D&D,AD&D,Marvel,and Paranoia, the biggest group I was running at one time was a tooo Fing big 13 players ,and one of my best compliments to this day is when a local game shop asked me to stop running my games on the weekend so they would have players !! MOHAHAHAHA !!!

And the last thing I was into is HEROSCAPE Large groups lots of fun ,not so much RPG but based off it and we did try running a few dungeon dives with it !

But right now due to time and location I have nothing lol ..an im outta time so later guys !

My idea for a web-based forum RPG completely forsook all dice except for your primary Stat rolls. Everything else would be based on your choice of actions and stat/skill comparisons with the ability to add stat/skill points to any comparison based on a Probablity Alteration pool of points dedicated to just that.
All stats and skills would have a 1(atrocious) to 10(inhuman) score and your action would be compared to a targets defense minus any probability alteration points and/or any reality alterations. I have been working on it for awhile and I think I might have it nailed down almost enough to attempt a "beta" trial. You would have bonuses to your skillsets from your Stats, class, and profession. Each skillset would fall under a certain stat. Any foreseeable skill can be added beyond the ones I would set as long as they will fit certain conditions, including the ability to be paired with a character stat.
As such many actions would seem predetermined but in essence can be "willed" to succeed irregardless of the predetermined nature of the original action and defense. In this way a seemingly weak character who would normally never be able to hit a moving target with a pistol can hit and deal damage.
Of course a characters P.A. points will be limited to only a certain amount based on stat bonuses which would replenish once a day. There are still alot of ideas I am playing with

This would effectively negate any dice rolls beyond origination.

I do not think I will ever run a game with more than 6. 6 is usually the most you can feasibly run.

I will be starting a Star Wars Saga RPG P&P tomorrow The new edition looks pretty cool.... we will see...

you gotta tell us how that goes. recently found that book and want to know how good it is. there's also new books out with stats for every single ship in the universe and suchlike, which look very very useful
