Is anyone completely biased against one console system out there. Lots of people are biased toward Gamecube because they think it's gonna be a "another fucking kids system". Some people are biased toward XBox because they think the corporate juggernaut, Microsoft, shouldn't screw with the video game industry (I am one of these people). And then there are those people who are biased toward Playstation for making some seriously half-assed, three-hour games. Which are you and why?

i have no issue with gamecube other than their game tendencies... it pretty much is going to be a kids machine again. the only coup that got my attention was the exclusivity of RE...

X-box is my enemy. gates has the monopoly on pc os... only programers and techies use linux and pretty much only schools use macs... now MS is trying to edge in on MY territory... i am not ammused with their "throw money till companies desert" such as with DOA and Munchs Oddysse...

im a PS man... even three hour games (and they are only three hour games if u race through them) are extremely entertaining and have great replay value... not to mention the games that take hundreds of hours such as FF, Front Mission, and so on and so forth if u want to get the best options availible and see all the plot unfold... the only thing that pisses me off about the PS2 is that i DONT HAVE ONE YET

I`m anti-microsoft and Sony just not anti-PS2 and X-Box. Sony demanded that retailers dont talk about their rivals if they want to stock the PS2.

Yeah it is in part going to be a kids video gaming console, but SO WHAT!!! I'm still going to buy it!!!!

My reason is that Nintendo always makes innovative, original, creative games that are exceptional fun....Although I'm not to big on Pikmin, yet, because it looks sucky...I've heard good stuff about it...like it being a tottaly original idea by Mr. Miyamoto....

Also Nintendo's reputation of "Quality versus Quantity" wins me over, that and the fact that the classic gaming Characters such as Mario, Metroid, Link and best of all Sonic! are going to be there among others.
but I also read that Nintendo has learn from its mistakes and will not be a kids machine, but will also have games for their mature audience...... and they prove that with games such as Perfect Dark and Conker's Bad Fur Day.....and not they're having the Resident Evil series to thier own.

Microsoft....I don't know what to think of it.....who knows, it might be a worthy competitor, or it might not... I am still not going to buy it.

Playstation 2 : I would buy it, but I just can't miss Nintendo's games...... Sure I can miss playstations games as I have done.....I just wish I could play games such as Gran Turismo 3, Spy Hunter and Grand Theft Auto 3.... but oh well....that sux

Has anyone played both PS2 and Gamecube? If so, what is your preference and why? I'm looking to buy one of the two, and I can't decide.

with anything you get, as soon as you buy it, another bigger better machine comes out. you buy a saturn (eww-crap) and out comes a psx. you buy a dreamcast and out comes the ps2 (even tho a ps2 is a dreamcast with dvd) you buy a ps2, and here comes the xbox. gamecube? well, nintendo let me down years ago with the gameboy. they seem to have lost in the market.

as for microsoft invading the games console market,
maybe its a good thing. after all... sony mostly made cd players and walkmans etc before they decided to introduce the playstation. and who is gonna argue that that wasnt good?

the humble PC.
Even tho the "outdate" occurence happens each minute, with pc prices going hectic and newer,faster,better systems coming out, you can do one thing that you cannot do with a console...

upgrade.

you can get the beastiest computer and run a class game.
programmers have to work to a thresh-hold of performance on a console, you dont have to on a pc.

you just say - minimum spec -
and you know ppl will buy newer pcs coz they cant play those games on em.

see, there isnt gonna b a console for a lil while that has a processor with the power of the AMD ATHLON XP 1900 with quantispeed ( equivalent INTEL 2.3 ish ) a 128meg 3d graphics card , 512k of ram(types to choose from there) dvd ram, cdRW
Unrestricted internet, ability to run a helluva lot more than games,
use of millions of periferals, printing, amazing sound ... .... ....

i could go on and on.
and always....you can upgrade that.
This is one reason why i love PCs. and anyhow....

i love my pc... but i cant afford to upgrade every year... with a console, u get at least 5-7 years before the next batch of wars start... until then, the games push the envelope with each sucessive generation... and eventually, yes... u WILL be able to get darkforum on the ps2...

u dont have to upgrade all the time on a pc, i mean mine is about 6 years old. i love her still.

and if you think about it, in the time that a new console comes out, each 7 years, pcs have changed and are always more powerful and amazin than the consoles.

also, it takes at least 5 years for the games market to catch up and require a better pc than you have.
i cant see people with 1.5 ghz pcs havin to upgrade coz their systems cant handle software for another few years.

another point - - - without development systems (pcs) you dont get games for consoles!

You all seem to be knowledgable about these game systems. So I thought you could help me make my decision. My brother wants a new game system for christmas and I have no idea which one to get him. He doesn't care either which makes it even harder to decide. What one do you think would be more worth my money? Thanks to those that reply to my question.

I dont know the US prices but isnt the PS2 cheaper than the Gamecube?
I`d go for the Gamecube if thats not the case.

Well I want a PS2. Strictly for the darker games such as Blood Omen 2( a game where you are the bad, evil guy), Silent Hill series, Devil May Cry, Deus Ex, and games like that. Of course for GTA and MGS. The only thing that I will miss are the Resident Evil games going exclusively to GameCube, they get the next 6. X-Box, I have no clue about it. Since Xbox is the new console, it probably won't get much third-party backing, but with the vast amounts of money at its disposal, it could try to buy out the market. The games have looked cool, but with out playing any of them, I can't really say anything about them. And GameCube being Nintendo, it will be a family oriented system since thats what has made it such a huge mainstay in the gaming field. They will bring a few of the more "adult" games to it, but it will have the majority of the parents buying it for their kids and I think the more adult games will not make enough revenue for them and they won't stake too much of a claim into that.

Gamecube = kiddie machine
X-Box = machine for people with no principles
PS2 = machine for teens and adults

Yeah errantrogue, that pretty much sums it up. At least for the time being since no one really knows what the outcomes of the console battle of 2001 will be.
