This game really does deserve a thread.

I got it on friday and i've hardly stopped playing it at all since. Tis incredible and addictive as hell.

The free running, free movement and free mission play is brilliant. The whole structure of the game is amazing. You are constrained a tiny bit by story now and again, but there are so many storylines that seem to be running under and over eachother it's really good.

Some of the time i seem to just have fun leaping and running between buildings and suchlike, jumping down, stabbing a guard in the back then climbing back up a building, or running through crowds of people and leaping into a hay bale or cart or sliding in between some scholars or suchlike and blending in to confuse them is really fun

the AI are all brilliant, every single person on the street seems to have their own mind, and own views on what is going on.

and the "leap of faith" part is brilliant too

tis a great game, and the combat gets better and better as it goes on.

Anyone else have it? If you have a 360 i recommend it.

I won't spoiler or anything here, just say it has more than just the story of you being an assassin, and more than just going around killing people. The gameplay holds up so well on its own, sometimes you forget the story is even there, and then when it comes back, you're surprised and then get involved in that.

I really like it. I'd certainly say buy it.

Been wanting to try it since I read about it in GameInformer over a year ago. Renting first.

im picking it up this weekend - I have to find something to substitute my Oblivion addiction.

i got it on ps3. i LOVE it! the actual assassinations are a trip. the city wide alert in jerusalem almost gave me a heart attack.

they were everywhere!

Damn it...the more I see and hear of this game, the more I want to break down and get a PS3...but a minimum 300 bucks for a new gen system that isn't even backwards compatible...not quite there yet. Maybe I'll just get the PC version.

i have it on 360.

i know people whine and say "it doesn't look as good as on ps3" to be honest, i wouldn't buy a console for ONE game. and not one that expensive, or with that much problems with compatibility.

the 360 is the only console you can buy ALL of the top selling games on. it may not be the most powerful, but i love it.

i was actully going to get it on 360, but someone gave a ps3 as a gift. i'm hearing it's great either way.

not surprised. they'll be giving them away with mouse mats soon.

I wouldn't buy a console for one game either, but then I'm also banking on the fact that Sony says they've got several dozen games set for release in the next couple quarters. Of course, if most of those games are available for other consoles as well and not exclusive to the PS3, then I suppose I should ask whether I should bother.

I'm just not over the 360s "red ring of death" incidents. I'm not keen on buying a console that just might melt down for no good reason.

Now, from what I've seen of Assassin's Creed, that might be a game almost worth buying a console for...

What is the control set-up like for movement and combat?

surprisingly good. i've only found one control annoyance so far, and that's only got to me really far on in the game. and that's more of a "i'm surrounded! i want to run away, there's loads of them, they'll kick your ass!" and he's like "nope, i'm going to target them, we have to fight them!" but you just have to use the fight system to break free and get outta there, or just kill them all. it's all about creating the opportunity to get out. so i suppose that's just me being crap at the game rather than it being annoying

the movement system is great. the free running works brilliantly and you find yourself getting more and more creative with it as you go on. the combat system works on using basic buttons, and then comboing with another to perform breaks of those in combat.

eg -

X = attack.
X + RT at the time someone attacks you (has to be well timed especially with some fighters) = block and counter attack

B = Grab
B + RT when someone grabs you = break the grab and immobilise the target (Sometimes killing them)

A = step
A then X = step in, break defense (then add another X for attack)

while in a fight, you move the visible selection (kinda like a highlight) which you do with your movement analog, over a person, you can specifically target them with LT or just smack attack button. you then just move your analog away into another direction as if to say "this way, him there" and then attack, or counter attack or get ready to grab break if you see him coming up behind you for something.

they're well thought out. and the free-play of several absolutely gigantic cities, many tasks - investigations, pick pocketing, eavesdropping, interrogation and suchlike in order to get information for the assassination (you need to do three out of 6 to gain enough info but it's fun to do more) it's good. you can go your own way and explore and open up more districts in a city, and seek out and help citizens in distress, who will in turn get vigilantes or scholars to help you out if you're in trouble. it's worth using them and if you get in trouble, plan an escape route through some vigilantes who will assist you by blocking the guards path.

to be honest, even just scaling rooftops, sneaking up behind guards and throwing/smacking them off buildings with your sword, or just almost 'sniping' them with throwing knives and hearing the crowd scream and exclaim as they fall dead onto the streets below is fun enough sometimes. the game is great. well worth a 360.

as for the 360 vs ps3,

as i said, 99% the biggest games out there, are being brought out on 360. the ps3's title range is poor compared to what is available on the 360.

The Halo Series, the EA sports series, GTA series, Guitar Hero series, PGR series, Tom Clancy Game series, and soon Rock Band (made by original GH developers)

these are just a few of the SERIES of games available on 360. as of e3 2007, even just in third party games alone, 360 has completely PWNED the charts. on a basis of NIL POINTS to wii and ps3.

not just with the fact you can get all the great games on the console, sure they may be available on others but not every single one, but there's more.

LIVE. online gaming (of course) league tables, communities, online chat, messaging service, downloads of game demos, and full games as well in the arcade (hundreds) videos from gamers, from game developers, music videos and songs, and also there's the downloading of full HD movies and tv shows from all those networks in the US. oh and also that nifty thing in my sig that several of us have on here, that lets us each know what we're doing, playing, how we're doing on those games and such. pretty neat. not seen sony make one of those yet

i think i saw recently that with some new networks signing up, LIVE has THREE TIMES MORE HD movie / tv show content available than the nearest cable supplier. good no?

Hardware failure.

My 360 did this to me, i got one of the first out. not to worry. i phoned microsoft, they sent me a label in the post (or i could print it out which i did too) and a UPS man came to my door almost the next day. he picked it up, microsoft sent me an email the next day saying "hey, we have your 360" and then in that afternoon "yup, there's another one on the way to you"

they have overcome many of the problems, and if they still don't get it right, you do it again.
they also extended all the unit's warranties by 2-3 years. ONTOP of what you had before.

my friend was unfortunate to get a replacement that broke, and he has been given 2 years free LIVE GOLD subscription, a now 5 year warranty and instant replacement thing, and some accessories.

point is, all new technology busts up sometimes, but their customer service is great.

plus with the core 360 (now just the xbox 360 i think) costing the same as the Wii....

anyway, the controllers feel so much nicer, and they have special halo ones designed by todd mcfarlane (i own one and it's awesome) the dashboard is so much cooler,

i dunno. what the 360 can offer that the ps3 can't really comes down to content with games. of which the 360 has shitloads.

i'm sure ps3 owners will say that there's tons that console can do. and i know there is. i just think the 360 is better value for money, the newer ones DON'T tend to break, there's more content available, the fact you can use it as a direct media addition to your pc, plug your ipod/psp/mp3 player right into it, oh jeez i could go on and on. sony just can't match the power microsoft has as a company and what it can offer people.

i'm sure the release of the low grade ps3 consoles and the rapid price reduction which was denied so very much may tell you something.

i suggest a 360 ps3 when they give them away with mousemats.
