Every year, I am shocked at Shelly's face and a load of pumpkins on the shelves all precut according to style. Then there are the trick or treaters. Cute little children in a cheap one pound make over with costumes that look more rediculous every year. The other element is, the safety aspect. Allowing your children to go to strangers houses all by themselves. Kids from as young as five years of age. you can only imagine the delight of a potential child snatcher. Well the time has come around on cue and no doubt there will be the pumpkins with candles glowing the pumpkin with a gruelly face. Pumpkins make good juices and soups, yet people don't treat them as food, but as inedible objects when poor people could have had a taste of luxury for once in their life. The shops make a fortune. They rip off the kids and the parents struggle with bags and bags of treats. I think that Halloween has become a spleen cruncher in terms of boring and hassle. My grandmother who is best described as a sensitive person gets very afraid of people in masks and fake blood stained clothes calling at the door screaming with delight and chanting trick or treat and we are coming to get ya. When my grandmother opened the door once, she fainted. Got rushed to hospital and then decided to sell up, release the capitol tied up in house for a place in retirement home and some for her own children. Grandmother misses the house aswell as the dog who continues to escape and sit next to her old gate whining away. I tried to explain these things to the dog but it just went back to its original spot. beside the gate. Know how he feels. I miss the house too. Your views please. We don't get that much happening in Australia.
When we do, the parents usually pre-arrange, or are waiting by the gate.
You are more likely to get needless vandalism out here rather than anything else.
Last year I had some numbnuts throw an egg at my car as I went past. Almost caused me to crash. At 100kph, an egg quickly becomes a lot deadlier.
The security guard at the supermarket got held down and spraypainted in the eyes. Lovely! To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. I guess I agree with the point that Halloween's too commercialized, just like every other holiday it seems.
Pumpkin makes good bread and pies.
The wiccans and other pagans call this "samhain", it's a big cross-quarter day to them, a time to divine the future.
I live out in the sticks, I have to go to Halloween, it doesn't come to me, but I have heard of vandalism being rampant in suburbia.

I might put rat poison inside the treats and see how the kids react to it To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. Halloween isn't celebrated here but stores are selling Halloween items more and more . I think a lot of countries in Europe are following America's footsteps by copying some holidays , like Halloween . . . . . . . . . . . . . . It's an odd thought, copying another's holiday w/o believing or understanding the reasons for it. Halloween's a good one to pick though, b/c in modern times it is just about fun. Are there not many holidays during this season in the Netherlands?

We've got Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day all crammed together, and then nothing until, like, May. And if a holiday is part of your religion, no matter what that religion is, your employer is not allowed to discriminate against you by making you work. Jewish people are most commonly known for getting extra holidays here.
How many vacation/personal/sick days and holidays do you get in the Netherlands? And is that one of the countries where people are accustomed to working less than 40 hours per week?

I work 4 days a week from 9.00AM till 6.00PM , from Monday through Thursday . I work at a shop , I'm a sales-assistant with my own department .
That's 32 Hours a week . I have 153,6 hours of vacation time .
We are not allowed any sick days , if you are sick it's withdrawn from your salary but no more then a total of 3 sick days a year .
You can build up extra vacation hours by overtime . We have a extra shopping day every first sunday of the month , it pays 200% but you can also write it on your vacation timesheet .
Because Holland is mostly Catholic we have the holidays related to that .
Paganism isn't very common and unfortunately it isn't a recognized religion as in the US . . . . . . . . . . . . . . To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. . . . . . . . . . . . .

I have always been accustomed to working 40+ hours per week, but since beginning to work in the state where I live, I've learned that not all US states consider 40 hours full time. In this one anything over 34 is full-time. Fortunately, I'm salaried at 40 hours in my main job. My employer offers fewer paid holidays than most, but I earn 1 1/2 paid personal days per month and I receive half salary for them if I haven't used them after one year.
What is a "shopping day"?

I suppose that is respectful, but I enjoy being able to run my errands on Sundays.
I used to work through the night at a Super Wal-Mart (Super WM's are open 24-7). It was odd seeing couples bring their young children to buy groceries at 2 or 3 in the morning. Back to topic: the stores are becoming stuffed with Christmas merchandise! It is hard to enjoy Halloween when retailers are thinking two holidays ahead.

To be honest I cant see the point in halloween. Its more of a kiddie's holiday anyway. To me halloween is just another normal day. Why do people fuss over it? Whats the point?
