giving gifts to those of other faiths? - 11-08-06

christmas is a standard holiday for thousands of christians all around the world, but there are those who choose to follow a different, religion...choosing different days and ways to celebrate holidays, the trick is when desiring to give one a gift, but not sure when because they do not, celebrate the holiday i'm traditionally rooted in.

what would be proper gift sending ettiquette, give them a gift on their holiday, from your holiday, or just a general happy whatever holiday sort of sentiment?

People like getting things, but perhaps ask politely in private if its okay, if one doesnt care for that approach, then perhaps have the tact not to put it in a wrapping with JESUS AND GOD LOVE YOU! on it

Is this for friends?

I guess a good one is consumables like wine/spirits or chocolate - it's just a gesture of thanks/appreciation rather than a hardout gift. Most companies do it so surely it's PC enough for regular people.

have you seen my marbles?

I don't think most gifts are holiday-specific, and you're obviously not going to give, say, a Santa figurine to someone who celebrates Hannukah; if you're aware of the time of their holiday, I'd think you'd give your gift near that occasion. Probably would avoid buying something specifically for thier holiday unless you really understand it. I'd have no idea what to give someone for Kwanzaa, for example, or it cold be sacriligious to give candles or chocolate coins or whatever to someone who celebrates Hannukah.

it'd be a hannukah gift, and he lives overseas, so bottles are sort of out of the question, a nice bottle of wine would be good, he doesn't like chocolate...

i found a nice book talking about his intersts, and am considering that. books are always good.

That's terribly un-christian of you, being considerate of other faiths and religions, let alone recognizing they exist!
But, then again, methinks most religions are like this deep down anyway.
