How well is an unarmed citizen supposed to be able to defend themselves against a semi-automatic firearm? Sure, if we were all Shaolin Monks we could probably do without weapons, using our hands as forged weapons against any close ranged attack, even with a firearm! But... we're not. Good point,
I would add the example of the genocide in Rwanda. Most of the murderers did not use firearms, they used machetes.
I would also add that murder and war was common long before the invention of gunpowder. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

Sixgun, if you and anyone (or everyone, apparently) else got the vibe that I was putting down all weapons owners in my original post, then you picked up the wrong vibe. The post was specifically against the type of asshole who has those weapons and doesn't practice seriously with them, and/or the type who collects fantasy and foreign weapons to add some kind of mystique to their own personality. If you are not one of these, then my comments do not apply to you. Honestly I'm getting a bit annoyed that this fact doesn't seem to be sinking in, and I continue to consider people's inability to understand my position on this as an extension of their own insecurities, most likely stemming from the fact that they do fall under that category.
I myself fell under it a long time ago. Then I found out what weapons were about, and I grew up.
I used to disdain firearms, but have found myself growing more and more accustomed to them, especially after my stint in the service. I have nothing against them, other than the fact that I live in Maryland and they're extremely hard to obtain here. "...Now Swear The Blood Upon Your Steel Will Never Dry,

I don't believe that Lethal force is justified in all cases of self defense. | Lethal force is a god given right if your life is in danger. THe only way to be sure you are able to stop someone who may want to kill you is to kill them 1st.

It depends on the situation really. You don't draw a gun to break up a fist fight. But you would draw on a rapist or armed robber. I guess the thing is with self defence is that there ARE grey areas in the system. Self defence is also decision making in very little time and often that is not the best kind of decision making. That's why, unless you are pretty sure you will DIE, best not to kill someone just coz you are a bit jumpy right?
Now give a whole lot of people the right to bear arms, and tell them everyone else has guns too. Is that really a good idea? It is if you sell guns I guess. have you seen my marbles?

We get more violent crime in areas like NYC and Chicago where people are not allowed to carry guns for self defense. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. the plural for people from england is english.
"two english men walked into a bar." "he's from england." "he speaks english."
only two words.
i spose i like weapons from a beauty aspect with alot of them, depending on what it is.
only weapons i own really is an ornate half sword, manufactured dull, for display, but its still considered a weapon. i have that because it's fashioned as a dragon breathing fire, the blade being the fire. the rest being a chinese dragon. tis quite nice... can't find a photo on the net to link. other thing i have is back from when i trained and tought shotokan. tis a 6 foot japanese red oak BO. i never took a sai course or purchased sai, partly because i didn't want to have sai and not know how to use them, i never saw the point, but because i could never make it to the courses that were held by my organisation very rarely. you had to be a certain KYU to go on these courses, and shortly after reaching the required KYU they stopped doing the courses, then when they did them again, i couldnt make it, then i had an accident whilst training and wasnt able to go back. i'd still train and do it now, but my local club's sensei changed, and i didn't like the way he taught. not enough dicipline in the club.
i like shooting for sport. targets, clays, and also i've shot rabbits. a friend of mine is groundskeeper in one of the fields and hills near me (i live in a very rural area) where he checks and tends to the cows. he also shoots the rabbits there, which wreck the ground and can cause the ground to submerge killing the cattle, and yourself, and partly from population control.
he owns a few guns of different sorts, and is very much a law abiding person. and is more security contious than anyone i know. his house is guarded up better than anywhere i've been to. thermal + motion sensetive cameras covering every point of his property is just one of the things he has.
i have been told i'm very good with clay shooting, and should take it up as a hobby. but its so hard to get a licence and guns are so expensive and the laws and security you need (which i agree with) but i cant afford it for a hobby i wont really be able to follow as much. besides, i'd rather not have a shotgun in my house.

Any way I would like to adress the issue of "WHY BOYS LOVE WEAPONS"
Males love weapons because we are geneticaly hardwired to. plain and simple. In ancient and prehistoric lifeways, males had the weapons. I am an archaeology student and spend ALOT of time looking at lithic weapons such as blades, points, axes, hammers etc. these are all designed to be of use in providing sustinance to the group, and to protect te group from loosing its sustinance. its almost to easy but everyone makes such a big deal out of it. the ancients never did, and even some groups in the ethnographic present understand this. In a lithic analysis of many sites in Africa, the archaeological record shows an industry of lithic tools, BUT there are many instances of small, thin pieces of lithics that are made to look exactly like the heavier tools. These smaller pieces are too delicate to be used in daily use so their use is widely accepted to be of ritual/symbolic signifigance. These pieces may have bn an indication of staus within the group, or there is eveidence of adherence to a particular style of point to indicate group afiliation. In the ehtnographic present in Africa ( and other continents with extant tribal populations) there is a tradition of minaturization of weapons for ceremonial use, and to convey both staus and group affiliation. I have a Masai dance sheild, I know it is a dance sheild because it is a small version of a large sheild, I know it is a Masai dance sheild because of its design that indicates it is affiliated with the Masai people. The earliest known examples of these miniature lithics are dated at 100K bp.
Males used the tools, admittedly women used tools as well and were responsible for hunting of small game. Now im sure some Africanist archaeologist who spcialises in gender issues is clutching their chest right now. But all evidence supports this thesis. one only has to go to a palce where young boys are gathered, for example a daycare. My mom runs the Day care center at the university that i attend and I visit her often. when i am there i am invariably treated to a display of our pre historic male nature, with little boys of ages 3 and 4 engaging in agressive behaviour depite the lack of toy weapons!
In an ancient or tribal lifeway the carriage of weapons was relegated to adult males. This was a mark of responsibility, it was a privaledge and only those worthy were granted the right to have weapons. Also the bearing of arms throughout history was a symbol of a free man. Could a slave have openly carried weapons? this was a contant through out history and a hallmark of a civilised society! So it is not just the domain of tribal societies or extinct prehistoric hunter gatherers. therefore males have a deep seated attachment to weapons that is engrained within thier very make up. Im sure that a prehistoric hunter would have looked at his spearpoint with a great deal of appreciaiton and have an emotional connection to the thing that allows him to bring down and animal larger than himself and that provides food for his family so that his people may live.

Anybody who doesn't think we should be allowed to own weapons to defend ourselves needs to get their fucking asshole raped, and know that if they'd had a gun, that might not have happened. Fuck you hippy shitbags.

The thing is that the fear is real. Over the summer, a 5 year old boy was killed by his grandmother less than a mile from my house. 2 attempted kidnappings within 5 miles of my house in the last couple weeks. And I don't even live in a bad part of town.
If people think that everyone is great and you don't have to worry, you're in for a rude awakening.

Its not instilling fear, its a fucking fact. If you take away legal guns, the criminals will still have them. If, by magic, you take away all those guns, the government will still have them. If your magic spell can take away those guns, rival governments will have them. At the bottom of that pyramid is the common man owning a weapon and having the right to use it in his defense. In his personal defense, defense of his country against enemy invaders, or defense of his beliefs against his OWN government.

however there is alot to be said for personal responsibility. So if the Frog wants to overthrow the government let em! you yankees need a change in command!
