Fine. That's the absolute and only reason why it's being nominated. You win. In Memory of the Busby Babes :

I actually wouldnt doubt it if it were. I didnt see Passion of the Christ nominated for best picture last year. It was one of the biggest/best films of the season. But entirely too Conservative/Right wing for the nomination.
At least Finding Neverland made it though.

This was interesting:
Oscar Winners Reflect Prevailing Social Conditions
Oscars are often given for sentimental or ideological reasons rather than for technical achievement, especially in the major categories. In recent years, these biases have reflected a "liberal" sentiment and have attempted to redress wrongs that the voting members perceive have been perpetuated by the movie industry.
The political and social upheavals and inherent contradictions of the late 1960's are well represented by the winners of the Best Picture award during that period. http://www.media-awareness.ca/englis...zing_oscar.cfm

Nobody was entertained by Passion of the Christ. It's not that kind of movie. It's the kind of movie that makes you think, that makes you feel guilty, that makes you feel sad.
RIGHT-WING VIEWS ARE BORING. They're not entertaining, and they don't make good films. Who wants to see a movie about why abortion is wrong? Not me. Give me sword fights, goblins, witchcraft, drugs, and mayhem anyday. People like the taboo aspect of popular entertainment. It allows you to walk the fringes of being wild and uninhibited, or at the very least witness people who are. They allow you to indulge in watching things you don't condone, because after all.. it's only a movie.
77th: Million Dollar Baby
76th: Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
75th: Chicago
74th: A Beautiful Mind
73rd: Gladiator
72nd: Boys Don't Cry
71st: Shakespeare in Love
70th: Titanic
69th: The English Patient
68th: Braveheart
What possible political motivation did they have for picking Titanic as Best Picture? Or Shakespeare in Love? Or Gladiator? Enlighten me, please In Memory of the Busby Babes :

Along came 2 gay cowboys. | That website also says that foreign films, musicals, and adventure movies are never considered by the panel. That's false. Life is Beautiful, Chicago, LOTR. All have won awards in the last couple of years. In Memory of the Busby Babes :

Enlighten me, please | I dont recall saying they ALLWAYS were but the site does say that they tend to pick films that encapsulate when they were made. I am guessing at the time Titaninc wasnt running against gay cowboys, or a movie like Boys dont cry.. hey thats one. So was Million Dollar Baby. I thought Best Picture meant..ya know.. best picture... in which case Million dollar baby should have lost to something else since it wasnt really that great. Passion was kept off the list because it was too right wing. Its views shouldnt even really matter. Since the movie itself was beautifully done.

I think if they scraped the barrel for any old movie itd be too obvious, but if brokeback ran against LOTR or Chicago or Life Is beautiful I bet it'd have won, so would Boys dont cry.

I'd like to give some mad props to Michelle Williams for pulling a nomination. The first Dawson's Creek Alumni to achieve such heights. I'm proud of my girl.
