I am not a supersticious person, does it have to be things you do? Or all the things you can think of?

The walking under a ladder thing comes from the fact that there might be someone up there about to drop a bucket of paint.

The crossing your fingers one has something to do with the sign of the cross warding off mischevious pixies or somesuch..

The first one is common sense that has become superstition, the other is religious that became superstition.

every single thing you can think of, i'm gathering info at the moment

at least i've posted this early on on my assignment rather than at the last minute where i'm stuck for ideas and expect everyone to post them all up for me.

if people can think up some obscure ones or some odd ones, put them up. ask your parents if it's not too much effort - hey you might learn something yourself.

ones from different cultures are most welcome - if you could also put down where they come from if you know.

many of the cliched superstitions have been mentioned...bless you when a person sneezes came from a belief that you sneezed out your soul, and if there was no bless you the devil would snatch it away...

find a penny face up, pick it up and all day you'll have good luck, find it face down, leave it on the ground.

put a penny in you left shoe to ward of the little folk, a clover will help you see them...A horse shoe hung like a u to catch goodluck, knocking on wood three times awakens the sleeping spirit to bring you blessings...tossing coin in a well while making a wish, along the same lines as wood...Never step into a house left foot first...it's the path of evil and you'll be letting it enter first...place a nail in the ground where someone was murdered, it'll hold their spirit still and prevent it from wondering around...

these are a few, most i practice...i'll come up with some more when i'm able to think of them...

Originally, it was considered good luck for a black cat to cross your path.

Oh how the omens have altered....(Has a mighty omens book somewhere).

Any superstitions?

1. Bad luck opening an umbrella in the house.

2. Breaking a mirror and that leads 7 years of bad luck.

3. My family and i eat black eyed pease for new years. Good luck.

4. Walking underneath a ladder bad luck.

Um that is about all. I don't really believe in this good luck and bad luck stuff. Don't they have a book for these kind of susperstitions anyways? Or do a search through google or yahoo.

Superstitions... I remember a few, but don't hold me to how accurate they are.

1. Keep mustard seeds in your pocket, if you see a spirit/demon/witch/vampire/undead spill some of the seeds on the ground. The spirit will have to stop and count every one.

2. If a candle flame burns blue, it means a ghost is present.

3. If there is a spirit in a room, look through the keyhole and you can see it.

4. Peer between a dog's ears right above his head and you can see spirits that way too.

5. A bird flying into your house predicts death close by.

Thats all I can remember right now... Maybe I'll think of some more later.
