many of the people taking it up because it's popular simply want to read the books and learn the names for crystals...then float about saying "ooooow im a witch" although the popular term is wiccan/wicca. i just shrug them off, one day they are teletubbies, the next day they become satanists.

Sorry hunnie, but satanism was commercialized in 1966. And it has just gotten worse since. The 'theistic' in front doesn't make much difference, you'll be pooled in with the rest anyway...people hear what they want to hear.

Anyway...my opinion here...I agree with Jordyn. I've usually avoided the whole 'witch' term, I find that the minute I use that word, people want spells...and I don't do spells...

I wish people,. in general, could realise there is so much more to witchcraft, it's more a spiritual direction, or directions, than one generic religion. There are no standardized spells or rituals that everyone uses, the main key is to find your own method, your own path.

i'm not wiccan either...i Do consider myself a witch, but i hate the negative connotation that goes along with the term. and like you, clearwitch, people hear "witch" and they want to know if i do spells...in truth i do them only on occasion when someone i know is ill (with their permission first of course) or when i'm getting depressed. i have a spell, well...more of a prayer...for peace of mind. it works really well.

Its what the massses do to anything over a period of time ..no ones afraid od witchs and warlocks anymore ..so now that its a safe subject the public will eat it !! and spit it out as say ....patte lol ..

i'm luciferian. I hate the fact that wicca or witchcraft is being watered down , however it happens as certain paths are made more palatable to the "masses". Even christianity over the years adopted a lot of pagan practices to win converts as such . oh well, witchcraft is getting trendy, nothing stays original or pure forever. I think that there will be a root core of people like you or me who understand and keep to the real craft and real magick. Even if magick is losing its hold in these days of skeptics. Its fun playing with posers, and trying to show people that its not all about EGO or title. 90 percent of them seldom really get it anyway. :woo:

people will always make a fad of something....look at charmed. i get annoyed that loads of dombasses think the sword work in lord of the rings and buffy is brilliant and realistic and etc...while the actual GOOD stuff on killbill and equalibrium is ignored and ridiculed. i take it personnally because ive done it for 22 years, i teach it now, for real, with steel, and wood and foam and whatever else people want to learn (no more spandex). but i accept it's a current fad, and it will pass as surely as a day will come when there are no more new episodes of charmed.

take comfort in the fact people like it as a fad, and arent trying to burn us.

with all that i said above said.....you have to worry more of those people who cinsider themselves on the "inside", who are looking, or consider themselves to be hardcore, and are really pratts. these poeple will bitch and moan and drag you down and try to gain a possition of power because they carnt accept they are just ordinary folk who practise magic and listen to the wind. they are just as bad, if not worse than those fad'ists

As has been said before, I too shy away from the term "witch." Although, I have been known to use it when I'm talking with my friends.

I've had some people come up to me like "You know, I wanna be a witch too." I'll ask them if they've done any reading or talked to anyone. And then I get shown "The Charmed Book of Shadows." Well, I suppose we should be thankful that atleast people don't think we're Satanists anymore.

you know you reminded me of something.....people hiding. alot of people who consider themselves pagans or witchs/warlocks say it under their breath and glance about. my mothers always been a witch, im that way inclined and everybody in her classes knows it, and yet when we do get any studants who consider themsels so....they try to hide it. really some people just have to grow up. but i think they enjoy this, they like and need the idea that they have to stay hidden, as if it makes them specil being a big secret that in fact everyone knows about

i don't know, i tended to like people shying away...and it was always an entertaining game trying to come up with witty retorts when one would suggest satan worship...i am grateful i can't be burned at the stake anymore, however. that's a good thing, but the weakening of the art is a sad side affect that's become more grossly, and irritatingly obvious with each visit to occult forums...

as much as i find intelligence and those i genuinly enjoy to discuss aspects of the arts with there...i find more and more becoming...well..i'd rather be associated with the evil devil worshippers of by gone days that we're harrassed and spit on, than the stereotyped witch of these days...at least it's not all perfect love and perfect trust, three fold law, i can still worship jesus, there is no sin but don't be bad or selfish b.s. they're pushing now...

i'll stick with demonlogists, and maybe give more consideration to ceremonial magicians...they make more sense.
