hey guys, i'm still kinda new to these forums, and this was the first thread that really caught my eye and intrigued me. here's my take on it...

i don't think there are any real atheists. we all worship something, we all have our own beliefs and all "worship" something. when people say that atheism is on the rise, i think what they mean is that there are fewer and fewer self-proclaimed christians, jews, and muslims. isn't religion just a way of knowing what principles you act upon?

true believers believe to find meaning and guidance in their lives. fanatics believe to convince other people that their principles are correct. this is the real difference, if you ask me, between religious nuts and saints: saints lead by example, and religious nuts just want to lead.

i have to respect a man's beliefs, whatever they are, but only if he really believes in them. i don't take fanatics or missionaries very seriously.

i believe that if anything people today are becoming more apathetic than atheistic. it's not that they don't believe, per se, they just don't give a damn. that's a far cry from someone who honestly believes that there is no god. and you can tell the difference between an air-headed religionless kid and a thoughtful atheist.

so there isn't more atheism, just more apathy.

Wait....we really need to define "Athiest" here first!

Is it...
1. Someone that doesn't believe in a Christian God
2. Someone that doesn't believe in a Religious God
3. Someone that doesn't believe in any God.
4. Someone that doesn't believe in religion or God.
5. Someone doesn't believe in anything.

I am both 1 and 2. I have studied various religions and I even went to religious primary and high schools to try and teach myself something. My parents aren't religious, but they haven't every tried to push non-religion on me. They were the ones who managed to get me into a Catholic school when I requested it. But no, I'm not religious after all.

The usual definition of an athiest is someone who believes in NO God or other supreme being.

I think people are going to be less lukewarm about religion and more will be towards fundamental and towards atheism.
