what religion do you think is the strangest?

Scientology sounds a little strange.

It should sound strange, considering it's an entirely fictional creation by L. Ron Hubbard. Of course, some people think Cthulhu actually exists too...

by strange i mean have like rituals that are not common and just make you question them and be like what are they doin? and just things they must follow by that religion just things peopel have to do to be apart of the religion or whatever.. jsut things you find strange...

To me the people who refuse medical treatment for their children and loved ones are the people that confuse me most. To actually allow someone you love to die when the means to save them are there just utterly baffles me. If you follow that logic, why set up drug treatment facilities or Alcoholics Anonymous? Just let things take their natural course and pray to God for them to be miraculously saved...

Reminds me of a joke:

There's a huge flood, and a man is trapped on the roof of his house with the waters rising around him. He sits and sings hymns and utters prayers. A little while later a guy paddles by in a canoe and tells him to climb in.

"No," said the man, "I trust in God. He will save me." The canoe paddles on.

Later, with the water lapping at his thighs, a boat pulls up with a rescue team and encourages him to climb in. Once again the man waves them away, claiming God will save him. The boat moves on.

Later still, as the water is rising to his chin, a helicopter flies over, and a voice over a loudspeaker tells him to grab their lifeline. Again, he refuses, saying God will certainly save him. The helicopter flies off.

The water gets higher still, and the man drowns.

Later, in Heaven, he meets God. "Why, Lord? I prayed and I prayed for you to save me, yet you did nothing and let me, your faithful servant, die! Why?"

God says, "Hey, I sent you two boats and a helicopter. What more did you want?"

Against someone who will let a child die for the sake of ridiculous religious beliefs? Damn straight.

EverCrack, Star Trek, Star Wars. Take your pick, with the fanaticism of its fans you'd think it was real. Never mind the rituals of not bathing for extended periods, sitting still in darkened rooms before flickering screens - sometimes clicking a ritual insturment repeatitively or observing tellings of tales/adventures by significant figures - often repeatedly, dressing in funny clothes, discussion of the intricacies of the completely fabricated - or at the least unprovable, meeting in great numbers at specific places and times for worship, wars against other denominations/clans/guilds(evercrack only).

I'm not that far gone.. I'm just an EQ addict.. And an old school trekkie.. And a si-fi junkie to boot.. But i dress as i have always dressed, old shabby clothes that are wearing out.

I was referring to the whole concept of the thread.

So long as the shabby clothes aren't a homemade(or worse, bought in ebay) Star Trek uniform.

I'd say the Snakehandlers would get my vote. Their entire religion is based on one entirely metaphorical verse from the Bible. They basically hold and toy with poisonous snakes, because the Bible says they will not be harmed if they are righteous. Thus, they believe that the more snakes you hold, the more righteous you are. So, the people holding like 20 snakes in their hands are the most revered. They get bitten all the time, but refuse to seek medical attention, because they "know" they'll be okay. I'd like to see them hold a bunch of king cobras... unscathed my ass.

lately i've been finding christian wicca rather...strange

christian wicca? what is that? i havnt heard of that one yet is that liek a person who bleives in christianity and then follows the wiccan religion as well.. isnt that somewhat hypocritical?

what is your reason for thinking it to be strange? most christian practices come from witchcraft and other pagan religions and originally the phrase in the christian bible "thou shalt suffer a witch to live" was actually supposed to read "thou shalt suffer a thief to live" or something like that...

i dont knwo i dont follow up on many religions so it was a question out of curiosity
