They would see that Gods are not mortal and that there truly is no reason to worship any kind of Gods... So they begin to focus on things that truly matter, like what is going on in their life, and...what's that!? Living becomes better! Why? Because people aren't wasting their time worshipping something that isn't worth worshipping, and they are actually focusing on what really matters in life!

I would turn it into a gigantic theme park, fill it with naked women and invite the entire world to my "-YOUR GOD DIED-" Party.

Hmmm.... I would probabaly suck the power out of him.

His Followers I would make sure had some where to go, and something nice to have(Me killing their god I would keep a secret)

What would happen to me?
I would probably return to life as normal, if I survived killing the God. Unless of course I became the God.

You cannot. They are IMO a common thought. The greater the common thought the more "powerful" the god. Kill all belief, and the God ceases to exist.
Simply lose their faith. See above. No physical effect.
Nothing. I believe in no gods. The only thing I can remotely see as what people percieve as God is the 7th dimension: The sum of the sum of all conciousness. But that is something for philosophy.
Again, nothing. The god would cease. His domain would probably fall under a new "god".

So let me rehash the question..

What happened to the people in the Emerald city (wizard of oz) when Dorothy showed them that their All powerful wizard was just a man?

All their beliefs were destroyed and therefore all the wizards power was gone.

What would happen if you dragged a god before his followers and showed them that he was just the same as them?
Would they still believe he had any power?
If they didn't believe would he in fact have any power?

2nds that motion. Gods feeds on energy, the energy the worshippers creates by believing, praying, worshipping. Without that energy, the gods would be powerless, weak as infants.

Anyone seen "Merlin" with Sam Neill? That was what Queen Mab was insisting upon about Christianity over Paganism. Christianity was becoming the more widely believed religion and Paganism was dying out... And Merlin was to be used to bring the people back to Paganism because he was half human, and half wizard. Queen Mab was worried of dying/becoming weak, because people were forgetting the Old Ways.

That truly is how it works... The more people you have worshipping and following... The stronger the God/Religion. I wonder how it'll be in a hundred years...

To touch and drag a god, as you say, you would have to believe in it's existance. Else the god would not exist to you. So by doing that act you would free him from your grasp, since he would cease to exist to you.

As for the allpowerful wizard, I thought the story was clear enough technology was his magic. Alike many before and after him.

My Opinion in Summary.

Gods Exist whether you believe in them or not, but without belief they can not exist.

No what I meant was, The people believed thet the Wizard was much more than he was and by showing them that he was just the same as them it destroyed the power that they gave to him.

I believe that a god gets his "power" from the faith of his believers but Proof destroys Faith.

What would happen, for instance, if you could prove, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that the Christian god was an alien for example.

The peoples faith would have to change, would they create a new god?
Would they go insane from having all of their beliefs crushed?
What would they do to you?

Actually it depends on the religion.

If I - against all odds - managed to kill a god without doing it through his believers, and the religion was of such nature that the believers thought I was their new god, then that is what would happen.
I am god, the believers write in the scriptures that their god was dead, long live their god, and his/her/it's domain would then be mine.

Then again, if the believers would seize to believe when faced with the demise of their deity then that would be that. Dead god, believers return to a more mundane life, I go back to my life, and the domain is no more, as nobody believes in it any longer.

Not matter how you twist and turn this, the outcome will always be controlled by the minds of those that worship.

Situation: God is revealed as a non-God being.
Resolve: Fanatic believers will not hear those words, and will not accept the proof offered. They will continue to believe in the higher being, despite the alien. It's hard to contradict firm faith...

But those who have no strong faith will probably move on. Uncertain... For a while. Perhaps find a new thing to believe in.
It is the main reason I believe in self more then anything else. I cannot be revealed as something I am not. For I am who I wish to be.
