Being an individual and doin what feels good, no matter what it is could classify someone as a satanist.
As far as I know, satanist believe in being happy above all else. So self improvement for happiness could fall into that area.

um, i think i might have been misunderstood, but the main tenet of satanism as i understand it is being master of one's self, which means holding one's self accountable, improving one's self, and taking and giving credit where credit is due. it's really about believing in one's self. and i think that calling it satanism is really more a right of passage than a christian insinuation; in a judeo-christian society, the best example of pride and belief in one's self is satan, or lucifer before the fall. his confidence in being mightier than god, though it eventually led to his defeat, is a testament to his strength. the "satan" in satanism is more symbolic than anything. satanism's really more of a philosophy than a lot of religions, in that worship and religious spirituality play no part in it at all. i'd say that satanism is a religion of satisfaction more than of happiness.

actually, you're right. religion is a dangerous thing. religion's like gasoline and foam peanuts. the trick is to do just enough of it to get a buzz without going through life shit-faced.

philosophy on the other hand is like a good beer. you can hit it your whole life and never get so drunk you miss life, but appreciate it in a special way that only a moderate detachment from reality (read: beer buzz) can induce.

on a side note, i think satanism in particular is more like a philosophy than a religion, although i'll admit the name makes you wonder.

I'm a bit confused but I have a strangely solid grasp on something.
I was baptized Methodist but the idea of Jesus being my savior and the one almighty vengeful God just doesn't do it for me. If I had to pick I'd be Pagan-ish. Goddess, nature should be respected and worshiped, reincarnation (sorta - the energy is recycled not necessarily a 'soul'), just be good.
