I recently read a pop philosophy book called "Think" that pointed out no matter how much you ponder religion, you don't come away with any more that that with which you approached the issue, meaning no one actually finds The Answer: as with so many other issues, you conclude there are pros & cons but no real proof for any religion, so you end up choosing based on what you feel.
I stated somewhere back in this thread I was Christian trying to stay that way, so I'll update by telling you I've joined a weekly study for people at all stages/positions regarding Christianity, and I'm trying approaching it without preconceptions.

Agnostic I guess. I am a doubter of everything. And yet I still expect to go to hell. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

I'm a Christian, and I push away any denominational affiliation. I've been leaning towards Christian Mysticism lately, as well, with some things that are usually affiliated with the occult. I know several people, all but one of which are Christians, that have proven abilities that lie in that area. They're very quiet about it, though, and definitely don't flaunt it, or use it selfishly.
(Also, this is my first post. Hello, all!)

(Also, this is my first post. Hello, all!) | the occult and christianity are still impossible bed fellows for me, how can using personal energy to manifest personal desire be doing Christ and His Father any justice?
what's christian mysticism exactly? To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

@thefr0g:
I'm sorry you feel that way.
@ Jordyn:
It's not really personal energy, nor is it personal desire. All power comes from God, and it's understood and made clear that in what they do, all glory goes to Him, not them. None of my friends use their abilities for anything really that selfish, either. I have one friend that reads tarot for people, another that's been doing rune castings for her friends, and another that, well, for example, offered and performed a spell for me to chase away some rather nasty recurring nightmares I've been having lately about my family and my fiancée.
Christian Mysticism in the traditional sense is more complex, and it involves a lot of things that I'm not very familiar with (there is a Wikipedia article that can tell more than I ever could). But the more modern usage, at least that I'm familiar with, could also be classified as New-Age Christianity, where psychic ability and the such is not accused of being straight from Hell, but rather a gift from God to be used to help others.

naturally occurring abilities i can understand, but fortune telling is still delving where only God should tread, what happened to solomon when he went to the witch, not even she wanted to step on a God's toes? When Saul went to the witch of Endor, he was consulting a source other than God. Through what we're doing, though, we're still going to God for help. Kind of like casting lots, like the apostles did do replace Judas (after using their own God-given insight to narrow it down to two people). I believe that this is another way that God has to speak, since He doesn't directly step in anymore. I mean, let's face it. As much as the fundamentalists scream it, the Bible doesn't have all the answers. You won't open it up and find out which field of science to study.
I have no gifts in this area, so I'm not sure how they do it. But it is God that acts, through them. And usually, it's just by helping them interpret things, since it's the person seeking information that draws out the runes and places them.

how long before solomon fell and how are you going to Him for help if you're laying cards rather than asking Him to reveal those answers? Perhaps that's why i have issues with Christ friendly occult, i do have gifts in those areas and nothing i ever experienced in the occult had anything to do with Him, and everything to do with deluding myself with hedonism.
how does anything from the occult serve Him, unless it's to make those who leave it enjoy Him more?
an example may be nice... To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

I don't have a religion that matches any of the globally or locally or even micro-regionally accepted or recognised faiths.
I'd probably be safe to say I have no religion at all.
Just my own ideas. Some may match or be inspired by others, but fundamentally I follow my own path.

I never said that my beliefs were more valid than his, I just pity those in the catholic religion, I know people who are catholic, and I see what that religion puts them through, and guilt that is imposed on them when they deviate from that path. You are a fool for such an assumption, it is never hard to ask "Why do you feel that way?" Farewell Little Brother, You Shall be Missed 1989-2007 I'm gonna kick you ass for this though

I am far from a fool, and what made me feel that way is how you said Wry has your pity simply for saying he is a Catholic. I think you are an elitist, and I think you stereotype rather than judging individually. Everybody is entitled to live the way they feel is correct, and you should not make judgement on someone for saying they are of a particular religious denomination, especially without knowing anything about them. What ever you say, dude. If you think you are qualified to judge me based on one, and only one statement to another person, then that is your prerogative, I have no obligation, nor desire to explain myself to someone like you. You say I am wrong for pitying someone for their religion, I say you are wrong for assuming that I am judging someone on their religion, instead of the religion itself.
