im a christian. i believe there is one all powerfull god and that he created us in the beggining. (genesis 1:1) i believe in absolute truth as for the basis of sin. i believe there is a heaven and hell and requirement of christian faith to enter heaven. | |

I guess you could call me a theist, except I don't really believe in God. To me, God has long since lost his patriarchal meanings and now just represents a concept that I really can't define in an ism.

Was born raised saved and baptised Southern baptist.
but now I am not so sure,
lets put it this way I believe in a god, virtually the same as most believe in.
I just don't put myself in any religios category.
I believe in the god that gave us free will, i don't believe he holds it a crime to smoke pot or have a occasional beer or two, I don't believe in going to churches to be close to him I can do that by sitting in my "god spot" completly alone from any other humans Just my lord and I and that's where I talk to him pray to him and ultimatly feel close to my creator.

It seems you all mix religion with beliefs and God. Religion is a human creation to try and be closer to or explain God. Belief is a human state of mind. God exist independently of religions and human thought. God created us free to do as we please even act stupidly and be selfdestructive, because God love us. But being stupid doesn't make us better only more miserable. God will help us grow whatever we saw in our garden, be it flowers or thorns. Ofcourse we will reap the fruits of whatever we seeds we have planted.

Like Guy Person though, I have seen how much people can benefit from religion and spiritual beliefs and sometimes wish I could turn off my mind and just "believe". Life is a lot easier if all the rules, how-comes and wherefores are all explained for you and you are convinced you are part of a special group that is going somewhere. In an earlier age I would likely have belonged to a religious institution myself as I am bent towards the introspective and esoteric to begin with.
Still, I believe that no matter how beneficial religion may be for individuals, that on mass it is a negative force in society and based too much on superstition, fear and exclusion of others. If we are to move towards a future in which we seek the greatest good for the greatest number of people we are going to have to evolve past religions.
I wish derdy had posted more about her beliefs. I would like to learn more about them.
