about Gypsies and their "spiritual" powers? Here's a bit of information:
Many people have believed for years that Gypsies were entrusted with various forms of ancient knowledge when the peoples who had that knowledge, like the Hebrews, Moors, and Egyptians began to be persucuted during the Crusades and Spanish Inquisition. Crystal Balls, Tarot, Fortune Telling, Palm Reading, and Tea-Leaves were among these methods and were considered by the Gypsies as ways to prove their psychic powers.
Transient in nature, Gypsies were considered very mysterious people, and they were often outcasts in whatever society they migrated into. Their token, "Cross my palm with silver and I will tell your fortune," has become emblamatic of the way most people view them. Gypsies , in fact, continue to be sterotyped in ways that other ethnic groups have long overcome.
Actually, though, the Gypsies did have psychic gifts, handed down through their families, generation after generation. They were so good at "reading people well" , in fact, that they were often blamed for "creating" the very situations they foretold.
If a Gypsy said, "The king looks to be in bad health and may not live the year out," when the king did die, guess who got blamed? Because they were both so different and so psychic, the Gypsies were terribly feared: people actually believed that they created the king's death by their powers or rituals. In reality, of course, the Gypsies only knew it was the king's time - but their knowledge got them into trouble time and time again.

The biggest problem with people,
and the greatest convenience,
is that they are humans.

Weird - i was only just reading about gypsies and then came across this thread.
to quote
"In the centuries which followed the elimination of the cathars from France, the Tarot was circulated by travelling entertainers and gypsies."
"...But what is often forgotten is the role played by the gypsies and why they have been persecuted so often, not least by Adolf Hitler. There is legend, I believe based on truth, that priests from alexandria saved whatever they could when the great esoteric library at Alexandria was burned by the roman church [my note - assholes!] and they became wanderers a people apart, with their own language and they symbolised their knowledge in the Tarot. When gypsies are first mentioned in English records at the time of Henry VIII, they are described as 'outlandish people, calling themselves Egyptians."
