my belief is that when we die, we go to whatever place our soul believes exists. If you dont believe in a place after death then your soul no longer exists since it did not know the destination for which it should go, if you believe in heaven or hell you will go to whichever one you believe you honestly deserve. if you believe in reincarnation then you wil come back to this earth in another form. I personally believe that the universe is what you believe it to be, since their is no way to describe some of those inner feelings about life and death that many of us have it is upto our personal beliefs to decide our outcome. as far as gods go, i believe they were either stories told to build a strong moral background for their culture, ideas used by leaders to control the actions of their people, or other beings who came to this earth ( i am not talking about ET's and giant starships) and since they appeared much different and had different abilities or technology they were worshipped as gods by primitive peoples and the beliefs have been warped over the years until it became blind faith. I hate the "well, the bible tells me so excuse" if you cant back up your beliefs with any kind of reasoning i see no reason for the rest of us to jump into the spiked pit you call faith. If God is all powerful and can do anything, can he make an object that is so heavy even he can't lift it?

....What about the people who believe that people who don't believe what they believe will go to Hell? Isn't that a contradiction right there? When people talk of the freedom of writing, speaking or thinking I cannot choose but laugh. No such thing ever existed. No such thing now exists; but I hope it will exist. But it must be hundreds of years after you and I shall write and speak no more.

maybe (if there is then he lives in my closet, not yours ballblasted At last the child lost all hope and admitted
to himself that this dark land was death,
from which no release could be had. For
a time he lost all strength and reason,
and wept in panic and despair.

This thread deserves to go back to the top, but also I was thinking...if reality is whatever you believe it to be, why am I poor? And what if I believed that that wasn't what reality was? Why would I believe Rosie O'Donnel into existence if I could do otherwise? Soooo many holes in this theory... When people talk of the freedom of writing, speaking or thinking I cannot choose but laugh. No such thing ever existed. No such thing now exists; but I hope it will exist. But it must be hundreds of years after you and I shall write and speak no more.

A persons reality is only what he or she believes. This does not mean reality is actually what someone believes, just the personal reality. You believe you are poor because you think it is true. Much like how I cannot believe in god, you cannot believe you are rich, because your mind knows better. Your belief you are poor is strong, whether it be from faith or reason, and it cannot easily be overcome. It's a little silly to have this concept argued over without even identifying it. If my memory serves me right it is called...fuck, how do you spell it. You know, starts with an e, ends with a tialism. Wait till I get back to college, my roommate knows what I'm talking about. Fucking your mother doesn't make me any less of a HOMO.

This all leads into another one of my good old atheist arguments (let's use the christian god for this one). If I tell you to believe in the easter bunny, you will not be able to. Even if you really wanted to, you could not convince yourself this magical bunny exists. Belief is not 100% choice. Now if I feel about god the same way you feel about the easter bunny, how can I be punished for it? God will punish me for not believing in him, yet it is not my choice. Just as your mind rejects the easter bunny mine rejects god. How can this punishment be fair? Fucking your mother doesn't make me any less of a HOMO.

well it's not. which makes god look like an ass and it makes a benevolent christian god impossible. alot of what the bible preaches about existence is contradictory to what it preaches about god. that is one of em.

I can understand though not completely agree with your viewpoint Heathen, however what I was adressing was a believe that outside (non-personal) reality was in fact controlled by what you believe which would contradict itself in a large group of people with conflicting beliefs. When people talk of the freedom of writing, speaking or thinking I cannot choose but laugh. No such thing ever existed. No such thing now exists; but I hope it will exist. But it must be hundreds of years after you and I shall write and speak no more.

You believe in an afterlife because it would be "stupid" if there wasn't one? Fucking your mother doesn't make me any less of a HOMO.

Kinda makes me curious. The whole afterlife idea seems kind of far out for me, and i like the idea of death = end, but how would that work. It really gets my curiousity going. Wanna see what its like, cause if its just an end, what does that feel like? Wierd thought in my opinion.

I wonder, though...if energy never dies, what happens to your energy when you die? I mean, while you're alive it's just recirculating...especially the energy patterns from your brain...oh well, in the end there's no way to prove or disprove God or religion...that's why it's called "faith", if you could prove it, it would be called "science". When people talk of the freedom of writing, speaking or thinking I cannot choose but laugh. No such thing ever existed. No such thing now exists; but I hope it will exist. But it must be hundreds of years after you and I shall write and speak no more.

That energy is all from food. What energy is left when you die is still in the form of food and decays to feed the flowers if im not mistaken.
