Why is a pursuit of knowledge always interprted as vanity? Actually I simply thought that when dealing with such important topics as time-space, God, and creation it would be best to avoid as few errors as possible. When people talk of the freedom of writing, speaking or thinking I cannot choose but laugh. No such thing ever existed. No such thing now exists; but I hope it will exist. But it must be hundreds of years after you and I shall write and speak no more.

What the Hey Nonny Nonny is Morigaine talking about? Did someone else understand that? When people talk of the freedom of writing, speaking or thinking I cannot choose but laugh. I've got it narrowed down to two possibilities. If all of reality is contained within the Universe, there is no God. If there is reality/realities outside of the Universe, there is a God. Just a theory. When people talk of the freedom of writing, speaking or thinking I cannot choose but laugh. No such thing ever existed. No such thing now exists; but I hope it will exist. [Edited by blueboy on 11-20-2000 at 01:30 PM] | Umm well several things.
1) You keep having this problem with referring to things that ARE theory as if they were fact. The Big Bang is indeed a theory. It is certainly NOT proven beyond all shadows of a doubt that are possible. I personally am a big believer in the Big Bang but I don't go around saying that it's absolutely true, anymore than if I were a reporter I'd go around saying that Gore won Florida. Just not good business. And you also have a problem where you think human science is somehow infallible. If you want to talk about what you're learning in College or what they think is the explanation for the Big Bang or whatever do so, but don't go around preaching condescendingly as if there were no chance of you being wrong and everyone else is wrong automatically whenever they come into contact with you. Another thing, if there ARE other realities, you certainly wouldn't ever be able to derive anything conclusive from them using our science because the Laws of Physics would likely be totally diffrent in another reality. When people talk of the freedom of writing, speaking or thinking I cannot choose but laugh. No such thing ever existed. No such thing now exists; but I hope it will exist. But it must be hundreds of years after you and I shall write and speak no more.

in actuallity everything we know is theory. "one plus one equals two" is a theory. if i have one apple in my left hand and one in my right hand and i put them both on a table i will have two apples on the table. that is in "principle" a theory. and like you stated before, you can test a theory a trillion times and it might go wrong on try one trillion and one. but we still say that one plus one equals two is a fact. the reason we do this is because it goes against all our logic to say it might not be that way on all occasions.the big bang is stated as fact for the same reasons. now i cant go into detail on this and there would be alot of jargon involved, but if you could take in all the information that we have (and we have alot)it's pretty much impossible that it didnt happen.just like its pretty impossible that one plus one will not equal two. it goes against all our logic to say that the big bang is not fact. you go to a physicist and tell him that, he'll look at you the same way you would look at someone who told you one plus one is three. and as far as where these particles come from, yea we wouldnt be able to draw anything conclusive YET, but that doesnt mean we wont in the future. but im sure that will not be in my life time. | |

I won't claim to be as up to date as you, seeing as I'm a High School Sophmore, but as last I was aware Steven Hawking was against the idea of the Big Bang. Or so I read in a Brief History of Time. I've had to resort to reading old books to try and get some real scientific knowledge as there's nothing to learn in school at this point. So I may be several steps behind you in understanding of where our science is right now. I personally don't want to disprove the Big Bang theory as I'm incredibly fond of it but I don't commit myself totally to it. And the point remains that the Big Bang was fifteen billion years ago and human science is fallible, so you can never really say with utter utter certainty that it happened. I actually would appreciate your explanation even if it does involve a bunch of technical jargon.
By the way one plus one can equal three, it depends if they're using protection or not. ^_^ (PS how do you do the html thing to get a real smiley face next to your text? anyone know?)
