19:28 Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I [am] the LORD.
My Jewish freind told me there'd be no way I could become a Jew, not that I wanted to be one. My 1st tattoo was done by a Voodoo cultmember with a razor blade and charcoal. I'm very proud of that one. Considering that most of the Major religions ban tattooing, it must be a very powerfull force.
Just start making replies people, I don't know exactly how to end this. I'm tired but I can't sleep!!!!! Everything is fuzzy!!

ive had a bunch of fake tatoos but no real ones so far. i dont see the big deal about tatoos. your body is your body. i dont understand at all what it has to do with god or religion or whatnot i think my first one will be the aerosmith symbol (letter A with the circle around it and the wings). my sister and i will get matching ones, we both loooove aerosmith. i think it'll be on the sides of our stomachs. then i want "Damion" on my chest in a pretty script.. for my doggywhen i was real little and ummm, more stuff... "Night, do not look for him." To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

i love tatoos, my only regret is i can't afford more...
in western culture, religions may frown on tattoos(i've seen christians with them)many tribal cultures believed they had a spirituality of their own...most commonly with animals...taking their spirit upon you.
find a book "urban primative" they have an entire chapter on sacred tattooing, what colors and animals are representative of what, it's a fascinating book for anyone that enjoys body modification...of the piercing sort To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. for those without a medical background, it means Do Not Resuscitate. I spent 9 years a paramedic for the military and have seen enough to not want to be resuscitated. Pain is Nature's way of saying "At least your still alive!"

bought my mom the same for her birthday...hers is a bit more dainty tho.
She has been a Nurse for 40 years and wanted it for a long time but was afraid of the pain. so I found her a good artist that made it fun for her. She was impressed that it didn't hurt as much as she feared. Pain is Nature's way of saying "At least your still alive!"

I'm all about tattoos...i just went to my tattoo artist yesterday to design my sleeve and make stencils. Its gonna be of certain animals that have meaning to me, especially the shark who i believe is my shadow totem.
I have 5 already, by the way...one will be covered by the sleeve. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. "If you forever do what you've done, you'll forever get what you've gotten"

So does anyone know what other major religions are against tattooing? So far the only one I've seen mentioned is Judaism. I haven't met many Christians with the same problem, although you would think that would be the case, considering that passage is in the OT.
What about Buddhism, or Hinduism? Islam? Shadowborn To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

As for the others, I've managed to scrounge together the following information:
Christians:
For the various branches of Christianity, the opinion seems divided. One site that I found that is anti-tattoo quotes Leviticus (same passage that Faler posted). As well, the following arguments were given: Quote:
While, perhaps not referring to tattooing as we know it today, we will see later that tattooing developed from and is classified as scarification of which this verse is in reference to. Besides that, the point is that this type of marking of the body is a pagan, ungodly practice coming from heathen peoples.
Any article or research on tattooing will categorize it as decoration and/or adornment of the body. Now the whole purpose of the tattoo is that it be noticeable. It is bodily adornment. Scripture principle makes clear that the adornment of the body should be governed by modesty. To be modest is not to adorn one's body in a way that it is accentuated, in a way that one calls attention to his/her body. One should not notice a Christian because of a tattoo, but because of the spirit and demeanor of the Christian.
"In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works" (1 Timothy 2:9-10 KJV).
"While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear. Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price" (1 Peter 3:2-4 KJV).
One with a heart for God, with a desire to live separated from the ways of wordily practices of our society, will be quick to see how unbecoming a Christian tattoos are. Those who have gotten tattoos while in a life of sin, should not feel marred for life or second rate. Although we can still see their tattoos, they are covered in Christ's blood and unseen by God.
| Additionally, I found an article on a speech given at BYU by the President of the LDS, where he said the following: Quote: |
"Be grateful; be smart; be clean," Hinckley told those attending the fireside. "We live in a world . . . that reeks of evil. Your body is [God's] creation. Would you disfigure that creation with portrayals of people, animals and words painted into your skin?" Hinckley suggested that eventually tattoos become a source of embarrassment and told young men that earrings "are not manly" and that they "look better without them." He also called for young women to limit themselves to just one pair of earrings, "you do not need to drape rings up and down your ears. One modest pair is sufficient."
| So there is definitely an anti-tattoo sentiment in certain Christian arenas.
However, I also found websites devoted to tattoo artists that specialize in Judeo-Christian tattoos.
On a website called the Islamic Voice, which appears to work as a Q&A site for people concerning the Muslim religion, I found this question and their answer: Quote:
Q. I have a question regarding tattoos. Can Muslims get tattoos? I heard that we can't but I'd like to know for sure?
A. Getting tattooed is prohibited vide a Hadith quoted by Abu Dawood in which Ibne Abbas narrated that the Prophet (Pbuh) said, Accursed are those who inflict or get inflicted by tattoos.
| Pretty much all the answers on that site are as verbose and hard to understand as that one. I have no idea what a "Hadith" is, or who Pbuh is...most of the answers on that site made my head spin.
Thus far, I haven't found any specific instance where tattooing is prohibited in Hinduism or Buddhism.
Thus far, I've found no actual evidence that tattoos are officially prohibited by either Hinduism or Buddhism. Shadowborn To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

Those can't be literal translations. I asked a Middle Eastern boy, who spoke English, what Tattoo was in their language he said that they had none, because it was forbidden. A man I knew got tattooed there though. It was done by a ten year old in a basement with a homemade machine. And it looked good.
I loved the fact that shaved heads are considered a disgrace in their culture. When ever I deploy I always shave my head. I call it my psycho-killer combat cut. It just puts you into the right frame of mind.

well...i think i have given my opinion on this before....dont really remember though...
i am a Christian....i belong to a Southern Baptist Church....i cant tell you the belief of most of the people in the church....but my belief is that is isnt wrong, unless you feel that it is or may become vulgar....a tattoo of a cross, or friend, or animal, as long as your not putting your tattoo before God, is acceptable...
and i also believe that the old testament laws were for the people that were under the law....we now are under the Grace of God....and we should follow all examples, and laws mentioned in the New Testament.
same as i dont believe that tattooing is wrong, i also dont believe that wearing a garment made of 2 different kinds of material is a sin.
i however dont have a tattoo as of yet, prolly wont ever get one...simply cause it will be there till your dead...unless your rich, and that i am not.
i do want some piercings though, but dont have any of those as of yet.....
im scared...lol...i want a septum ring...which i hear doesnt hurt at all, or is the worst peircing you can get.....so i still havent gotten that one yet....who knows where it will go after i get that one...:p
laters all signature???
where do i sign at then???
