the point is that you are saying that Abraham, Moses and the other patriarchs stole beliefs and ideals from preexisting cultures, how's that any different than where the knowledge for Wicca, witchcraft or any other occult based art come from; did those who spread the secrets of magic steal it from the magicians who taught them?
it's just interesting that there's such a double standard.
What double standard? Dynny if you are going to call me a hypocrite, it might be of note that I have yet to use the word "steal", or otherwise imply that the origins of the Abrahamic religion we somehow wrong. Although lets face it, I am a hypocrite, we all are to greater and lesser extents. Everything comes from somewhere. After all "What has been is what will be,
and what has been done is what will be done;
there is nothing new under the sun". I don't think there is anything wrong, with the call it origins of the Bible stories. Who cares. A good idea, should be shared. It is when you use the History as an argument to support an argument against it, that the History itself creates an argument that will erode the ground beneath you.
Einstein didn't pull his theories from nowhere, they were based on something else, this whole world we stand on, our culture is taken from the people who came before us. That simply is life.
As a footnote, Gardener didn't create Wicca. He started it, but it has evolved way beyond his intents and purposes. Wicca was and continues to be created everyday by the people who practice it.

the double standard is used by most anyone who has issues with the faith, while subscribing to beliefs that are as equally questionable in their origin.

Ah well, when I used the word "stole", that wasn't to you. My original post was in response to the OP. Stole was a bad choice of words on my part, and I am sorry.
Although my original response to the OP still stands. But only to the OP.
The fact is that whether you take, steal or plagerize an idea, the idea itself must still stand on its own merits. So whether or not Abraham copied it down word for word and his children changed the story a little every year, or he in an inventive fit rewrote the Myths. It means nothing, except that possibly Abraham was a very religious man inspired by religious fevour, could be a cunning man who worked out a way to control his own village, or many other options. We can not know Abrahams motives, but the religion itself the bible itself stands only by the ideas written within it regardless of source.

Why are you in the mood for a quick snog in the back room?
i'm going to be a georgie porgie girl; kissing the boys and making them cry because i won't take them home.
Adonai is the only male figure i need in my life anymore; most other men are too much of a hassle, they have needs, mixed up emotions, high expectations, confuse and befuddle me, never seeming to know what they want from a girl, but to make sure she's hooked, line and sinker.
if you lot weren't so darn fun, engaging and wantable; i could be a happy man hater.

"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Jordyn v. Necropolis thread. Please enjoy your stay."
It got dead except for you two there for a while.
As far as Satanism goes...it's not exactly most respected religion. But to each his own, I suppose.
"We are all atheists about most of the gods that societies have ever believed in. Some of us just go one god further. " - Richard Dawkins
As for Vampyric_Tyrant...that was ignorant and seemed rather for show. I'm sure a real Satanist (although I'm not capable of making charges against what one claims as their religion) could at least think up a viable answer to the question.
IMHO.

An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind. --Mahatma Ghandi Start a revolution: Stop hating your body.
we've discussed religion on this board for years...it's really nothing new, just too few with the balls to put their religion up for debate, the last was a "trad witch" who had no clue.
and the satanists aren't speaking or they have already spoken their mind, so if you have anything new to contribute, please do?
