| Is it right for a child to be born into a religion ? -
07-22-02
I dont think it is because I think that a child should be able to choose what religion it wants to be, if any religion at all. I was born into a Christian family and was Christened when I was about 6 months old, to be fair now my faith in Christianity iis nowhere to be seen. If I had a choice I would not of been Christened at all and would prefer to be part of no religion. I would like to hear ther peoples POV on this topic. LUCAS:Joe, I think its gonna be ok
JOE:What makes you think that?
LUCAS:Who knows where thoughts come from? They just appear.

I was christened as a baby too, it's common courtesy here, wether you believe or not. But I was never raised inany christian faith. And neither will my kids, I tell them of elves and fea folk, and do my best to teach them to think for themselves. No matter what religion they eventually choose, if any, I will be ok with it, as long as it is a choice they made on their own. You promised me the ending would be clear

I vaguely remember my baptism, just the minister touching the water to my forhead, and then the searing pain, the smell of burnt flesh . . . my own screams echoeing in my ears . . . de vagorum ordine dico vobis iura

lol . I don't remember my baptism. The thing is I went to a church of England school and although Staffordshire is full of many different races in Cannock it is almost impossible to go to a school which in someway does not communicate with a Christian church. I have had to sing hymns and go to church since I was around 6 up until I was about 11 or something like that. I think that children should not be baptised or anything until they are old enough to understand what is happening and old enough to make up their own minds. LUCAS:Joe, I think its gonna be ok

I was never baptized either, and I'm grateful for that.
I have to doubt your malevolence, though...

My story is similar to that of Clearwitch. I was christined as a child, because it's a common courtesy here. However, my parents never raised me as a christian and I am happy with that. I agree that children should make their own choice eventually.

i almost had my baptism cause my mother and step dad were christians but i told the minister guy i already took a bath and i don't trust that he wouldn't try to drown me......i had a fear of drowning as a child=P
oh ya the subject,........i think it's the same as being born in a gang...the kids don't get to choose and i think that's sad "The undeserving maintain power by promoting hysteria.”

I have been baptised though it was against my wishes. In what right do we as people to choose the religion of our children? I am a satanist and my wife an athiest, and our son is not taught either of our beliefs. Let him choose what he will and wants to believe in the future as his own experiences shall sow the reactions of tomorrow. i will not condemn him if he choose to take on the christian faith as long as it was with open eyes and not blind faith. look at the church today and tell me that you would trust your child in the hands of a priest? and they call me evil You can look at it as a metaphor for the fleeting nature of human life, or just chalk it up to my being a sick, bloodthirsty monster. Either way, it's all the same.

My story is the same as Clearwitch and MorphlingROR I want to live in a world of peace
Without conflict, like the one I’ve seen in my dreams.

i was never baptisted, even though my mom wishes she would have done it while i was a child because there is basically no chance of getting me there now.
i dont think it is right for parents to pcik their childrens religion. my mother never pressured anything on me. to tell the truth, i am not even sure what i believe yet. i have been taught to come to my own beliefs and i am more spiritual than religious.
to pick for your children is wrong. it sounds like to me that it would be a form of brainwashing. it also seems like it is taking away a part of that childs personality and that just seems wrong to me on so many levels.

I was also baptized...but I really don't think a child being born raised into a religion is a bad thing...it gives them a foundation, a sense of where they belong, all children need guidance in all matters, even spiritual and some children actually flourish and do well...it should be a childs right to choose, as soon as they start asking...who's god? and seeing there's more out there than their parents church...at that point the parents should back off...and let the child start to figure things out...see what makes them happy and find a balance within...I think that's why many have negative reactions to "religion being shoved down their throats" some parent are unable to accept the fact their children will be "different" from the norm, won't be "following in their footsteps" and decades of dogma has condemned and confirmed in them a sense that "this is the only way" and in fear of what will happen and don't understand they began to push them down a path they are not meant...and then comes rebellion...when my mom first found out that I was no longer a catholic...she began to cry that "I was going to hell!" that woman has always been annoying! I understand what you are saying Jordyn but about the foundation you are talking about it wont be very steady because what you teach children from a very young age will probably stick in their minds for a lot longer than what you tell anyone of the age of about 6 or above because that is when they start thinking for themselves. I think that if you let your child be free from religion until they are old enough to understand for themselves about what religion is and what commitments they are willing to take. If you teach them a religion from a young age and get them committed to that religion before they have even worked out what the hell is happening then its your decision but I think that children should not be involved in religious matters until they are old enough to understand. LUCAS:Joe, I think its gonna be ok

To be honest I don't know. I was born without religion. I think that more important is to let the kid learn something about other ways to go. And do not say him theire are bad because they worship God or Lady and Lord or Satan..Allah Holy ghoust or even only them selves....I do not belive that somewhere will burn someone for his or her religion but facts are diferent. I am sorry for my very bad English but it is long time ago I use it.
Have a nice day! | |

I`d say no as well. Its one thing to teach your children basic values and respect but it shouldnt stretch all the way to a belief system. Too good enough a subject to let it die so soon. Work is of two kinds: first, altering the position of matter at or near the earth's surface relatively to other such matter; second, telling other people to do so.
