I do believe in him, this is not an attack of course, this topic just really intrigues me, and I wanna hear everyone's reasons for it.

the same reason i don't believe in the tooth fairy, or zeus or freddie crougar or leprachauns or what else is their that's a product of the human imagination? im sure the list could go on forever, we are capable of some outlandish proposals you know. but besides that it is very illogical and unrational.

So just because you don't believe in it, it's automatically irrational? It doesn't seem like you handle your beliefs and reasons for them very maturely.

Read the Bible, found better book, then worshiped that.

The only reason I can find for beliveing is what that book says and I dont like everything in there anyway or the actions of some Christians (true/untrue Christains doesnt matter).

I dont believe pride or lust are sins as long as there is at least some measure of control. I dont want people to go to hell for not believing in God. I think theres some more too.

i used to... i mean really gungho..bible thumpin dancin in the isle speaking in tounges kinda christian...i have also been mormon baptist, southern baptist, and have been to a catholic church a few times.. i figured if i was to believe in him then i should atleast see what all the other chruches have to say about him. every church was different and contradicting to itself in one form or another....when i finaly lost my faith was when i was going to a penicostal church...the only time anyone there would talk to me was when i did something "worng"i didnt feel it was wrong...it just went against thier own beliefs so it must have been wrong...they were tooooo hypictritical...im not saying im not....i have been at time...everyone has...it just didnt feel right...he didnt feel right for me...to quote bono...i was "trying to fill that god shaped hole" and god didnt do that...so i went looking to other religions...and found that wicca has been the best for me...i feel more at peace with myself and others..less violent and a lot more happy...Mother Earth and the Goddess have taken care of me very well....i still have respect for your god...i just dont feel right with your religion...if that makes any sence at all

Uhhhh... Red, i think you missed the point of what a sin is. Look at things from an animistic view for a second, let's say that every action has a soul. An action becomes sinful when it's soul has cruel intent, or it ahs no soul at all, in other words, an action for the sake of itself. Another interpretation of what sin is is that theyare excesses of something, so when they say "lust" it means an excess of desire. Saying an excess of lust is redundant. On top of that, sins themselves are not actions, in my opinion. Actiosn can be sinful, but of the seven deadlyh sins, not oen of them is an action, they are all emotions (or the lack thereof). That's lust, pride, greed, envy, sloth(possibel exception), anger and gluttony. And besides, I think the base post means why can't you accept the CONCEPT of God, not the rules of God that religions put on him.

An excess of anything will most likely hurt. I do accept the CONCEPT as much as accept the concept of any theory.This question is about belief/faith.

i dont know if i believe in god or not. i have never recieved sufficient proof that he exists, but on the other hand ive never been proven beyonfd doubt that he doesnt. so im open to everything there. but i dont worship him, and i have a feeling thats your real question, right? cause for some reason i seems most religious people use the word believe as an equivalent to worship. and i believe in a lot, but i dont worship anything.

rofl, i hate having to reintroduce myself all the time. ah well that's what i get for not wasting as much time here as i use too. anyways i love rationality. i fucking love it. and automatically basing something irrational because i don't believe it would be irrational. hee hee. and that would be something i hate nay? i grew up in a christian home. my moms father was a pastor. my uncle on my moms side was a pastor. my fucking dad is a pastor. and i use to be a very devoted christian. i know the christian bible up and down. luckily i was also very drawn to philosophy just as much as i was to theology and christianity. and at one point began to think about the christian religion in the absence of bias. and even though it was hard and bruising to me, i eventually faced the truth. a maturity i respect in myself now. because at the time it was very burdening to let go of a fairy tale you were raised to believe in since the beginning of your existence. it was a very wonderful rite of passage in the end though.
