ok for my third try at a post
Ive been wondering for some time why people believe in god.now i have my answer.#1. people believe in god to make themselves feel good and not be scared about death.
Another reason is because of little creatons and weak people who cant think for themselves. religion is the reason for many tyrannical leaders coming into power.like president bush, saddam hussein, the emporers of rome,and the Pharohs of Egypt.
stop me if im wrong but isnt life supposed to be lived by the living? just listen to your heart and not a book made by other humans. if you really want to believe in something believe in 2 thing. #1 yourself#2The BIG BANGtheory
this is a privalege for me to be writing this and if i offend some people im sorry but you cant expect me to believe that an overprivleged guy is floating around in the sky determining what we go through

Some people do believe in gods to stave off fear, I know those kinds of people. Some people believe in the gods becuase they choose to believe there is something greater than themselves, humans in general are petty it might be nice to think there is someone or something out there who is better than us. Others believe because you can wrap your mind around the idea that someone started the universe than "nothing, big bang - end of story". There are more reasons my personal one is that it makes more sense to believe becuase it comes naturally, disbelief is something that you are tuaght. I do believe in something that espouses everything I wish to be and try to be like it, ideals are just as good as gods.

How do you know that the Big Bang was fact, and not fiction? To say that science can cover everything is a bit much, don't you think? I mean, look at the platypus for God's sake...... something had to be doing weed to come up with that....

What about the different concepts of God? Even if there is 'no God' there is a form of deity developed somehow by just about anyone whether it be Krishna, Jehovah, money, SpongeBob...
Reasons for believing in God? Purely subjective, end of story. Does it matter in the end? No. Leave people to have their own ideas and beliefs that work for them. Whether they are wrong or right shouldn't affect YOU. At the same time being an overbearing nay-sayer isnt necessarily helpful either.
You're either for or against Evolution pretty much, i'm sure other threads cover this.
It IS true that people have used/use God for destructive means. This is of course due to manipulative followers/individuals, not any 'God' per say.

...actually tbn has some rather entertaining bible stories and often times i'm suprised to see a familiar actor, rather young.
you have a point about bible thumpers, but not all are bible thumpers, some are genuinely interesting to discuss esoteric matters with, while being quite understanding of less than, christian beliefs, if they're physically in your face, politely decline and walk off...if it's on television? 
if you speak with "true" christians, they'll agree that some of their fellow believers are as bad as those who hate christian propgandaists.

(just making sure :p) | generally they're an okay sort, but can get as zealous about there being no god as the zealots who bash you over the head with god, it's sort of funny though; watching someone who hates godly dogma, acting in the same way that they claim angers them...

It's not like the televangelists are trying to convert you personally, and have put on broadcasts specifically for you.
Hell, we've got guys that come down regularly to the bus depot downtown where I live and put on these lame ass performances using charts and illustrations, in order to save the souls of we poor schmucks who are simply stuck waiting for the next bus and have nowhere else to be for the next ten minutes... Oh, and for the record, they hate to be argued with logically.
