Here's a prime example of people letting hysterical religious beliefs get in the way of logic. This man's life was ruined by it. I realize this doesn't begin to cover the spectrum of Christian belief, but there are enough people like the ones described in this article to scare me deeply. This kind of religious hysteria isn't limited to Christianity either.
It brings to mind a favored quote of mine:

oh my, they'd have a field day with me but it is horrible...i've read stories and i've watched shows concerning this stuff in college...when i was going through my "satanism" phase...it's amazing the psychological aspect of group satanism...one book that stands out in my mind is Michelle the lady has thirty plus personalities, and it all came down to this satanic abuse...

Never mind the fact that this guy was a highly ranked law enforcement officer, a devout Catholic, and both daughters that had accused him had already made false accusations on at least two occasions...
The quote that absolutely floored me was the sheriff who, in answer to the fact that there was no physical evidence, said "If you were the Devil, would you leave evidence?" The idea that people in power can get that caught up in that sort of bullshit is absolutely terrifying.

I've seen so many cases of false arrests...cops doctoring evidence, lying, manipulating...people being convicted without any evidence whatsoever...it's saddening. Very depressing.
When people talk of the freedom of writing, speaking or thinking I cannot choose but laugh. No such thing ever existed. No such thing now exists; but I hope it will exist. But it must be hundreds of years after you and I shall write and speak no more.
